chapter 26.

Kate's POV

It's been about a week plus but I feel like I just arrived from a journey through the desserts.
Since the incident at Jessie's party,I have been avoiding everyone,even Jessie.

That day only succeeded in making my heart weakened.
I felt incomplete and empty,not only because I lost my treasure but for the fact that I was such circumstances that led to the lose.

I had gone back the next morning to really search the place but my necklace was no where to be found,it was as if it vanished.
I couldn't tell my parents about it,they will be disappointed that I lost it the first day I wore it so I kept the lose to myself.
I put my phone in my skirt pocket and I go downstairs.

All this while,I also had Drake in mind but I still am to deep to break through.

Today is a new week and I'm finally agreeing to go to school,I had framed sickness to stay home and avoid everyone.

I sighed.
As they say,"you can always run away from your problems".

To my relief,Jessie's dad wanted to stay for a while,that made her busy and of my hair after school hours.

I took in a full force air and let it out on spotting jessie and Miles.
They seem to be getting along now,I shrugged,"that's a surprise.

I was kinda disappointed,Drake was not with them.
I made a face,
why do I care so much,if he is?

I guess I want to thank him but a little part of me knew it wasn't all true.

Jessie hugged me in happiness,
I smile
I'm back to her issues,I thought almost laughing out.

"How are you and are you recovered fully?
"I'm really sorry I didn't come check on you,like I should have"
It was only because you said you will be mad if I ditched my dad.

I shook my head lightly and she continued talking without stop.

I nod not saying any thing and I held my phone tight out of Jessica's euphorical attitude.

"I'm glad,you're back'.Miles also said smiling.

"Thanks guys",I smile lightly.

"I'll let you two be",Miles said and waved us off.

When I was sure he was out of ear shots,I screamed.

What! "garl you guys are so into it",I slap her cheeks playfully.

No way,she cut in smiling,her cheeks were light red.

"Miles is my friend and over the week,we've been getting along well and that's all.

"Hmm hmm" I say in disbelief.

"I'm serious,it's simply platonic",she stressed.

"Okay if you say so....

"Mind if I cut in?
it was a voice,I would never misplace.

'Drake' Jessie acknowledged.

Drake! I also say but in horror,"like you mean Drake?
I wished I could dissaper as I turned slowly.

He and Jessie laughed,Drake in amusement while Jessie in confusion.

No matter how planned I was in seeing him,this wasn't one and I didn't add reality to my imaginations.

I gave Jessie a look and she nodded going away.

"Hello,I lift my hands nervously.

'Chill keep it cool',its only Drake.
"Not a monster".He made a scary face,which I found funny.

I smile and it eased most of tension.
He looked at me,his brown eyes holding a type of emotion that I couldn't place.

He scratched his head,an action I get he does when he's nervous and doesn't know what to say.

"Since you're not a monster,how sure are you I'm not the hidden witch,I say encouraging a conversation.

He furrowed his eyebrows in a funny way and acted scared.

We both burst out laughing.

I looked at him and pause after I realized I just lost control.
I'm really laughing with Pompous guy.
I smile,I would never have but that was before I got to really have an encounter with him.

Why didn't you come to school last week?

I look at him and heaved,reluctantly I admit.
"Well since you know what happened,that caused it".

He looked as if he was about to say something but he didn't,he just nodded.

I continued,"I didn't want to face anyone".
I lower my eyes.

He lifts my face up and took my hands in his,I didnt bother pulling away.

Hey,"it's not your fault and nobody has the right to treat you that way okay.

I felt like giving way to tears but I stare at him and shake my head repeatedly.

He puts my hair back and let's go of my hand,I didn't want him to,it felt so right in his and I enjoyed the warmth although for a short time.

He looks at me and smiles,then dramatically goes to my back and whispers.

"You know what will cheer you up?

I was amused but I answer,"No I don't".

He comes back and faces me.
"It's a surprise".

Surprise! I was already confused and lots of things were going through my mind.

Does he have an ulterior motive?
What type of surprise,I'm I being set up?

I was panicking inside me but he noticed my worry.

Hey! "hey Kate calm down,it's not what you're thinking".

"Take deep breaths"
I obliged and did as he instructed,when I was better,I asked,"what surprise?.

"I'll tell you only if you agree to come with me after school hours".

Go with him! I doubt that,I looked about with indecision.

Trust me Kate,we won't be out long,'I promise'.

I couldn't say no although I was kinda scared to my wits.

Pinky swear? I say to my surprise,I remember I used to love using that,but suddenly it lost value.

He let's out a muffled laugh but agreed.
"Pinky swear".

"I'll meet you by the parking lots".

Sure,I agreed smiling and we part ways.

I certainly have nothing to lose,I thought as I made plans to inform my dad.
