Karalynn Linnea Westergard (Doctor Who)

A/N: DarkerStars and Roselees here be the Viking one!

Now as before I am going to put a few factoids for you that I got from my research. Women in Viking society had greater freedom then most they could inherit property, choose where and how to live if unmarried, represent themselves in legal cases and own their own businesses. Women were the only religious leaders as they were thought to be prophetesses of either Odin or Freyja and could interpret their messages to other mortals. Viking kept their fingernails and toenails short because they believed in Ragnarok in which a ship called Naglfar would appear floating on the waters unleashed by the great serpent Jormungand. This ship happened to be made out of the nails of the dead. They believed that heroic women, especially those who died in childbirth went to the Hall of Frigg in Asgard where they spent eternity in the company of Odin's wife while men who died heroically in battle went to Odin's Hall of Valhalla. The explanation for frequent fighting in Viking society is attributed to a society that put an emphasis on one maintaining their own honor. Women could be warriors and were actually given their own special name "shieldgirl." That is all! XD

Personality: Rough and tumble, she is the type to throw an axe at you in affectionate greeting or sometimes as a sign to stay away, nobody is quite sure. She is not one to be held back by the standards that others hold for her and takes them as more of a challenge. She is the type to do her best and push herself at anything she feels is worth doing and likes to challenge the limit of can and cannot. She is very hardworking and believes in working for everything you have. She is very blunt about her opinions and speaks her mind whether it is offensive or not. Adventure is basically in her blood and she will spend hours in the surroundings forest, fishing in the lakes and hunting the game with her stepdad's bow and arrow. If she is not working in the field or wandering the woods she is sparring with anybody who will give her a chance. She hopes to be one of the famous shieldgirls who go on raids with the men overseas someday.

Backstory: Karalynne was born on a cold Icelandic night in late winter, around March. Axel the chief of the house had been scornful towards the newborn baby and had been tempted to throw the baby out as he knew that it was not one of his children, despite being his wife's first husband. His wife refused to elaborate on how the child came to be, and had threatened divorce if the subject kept being brought up. He felt his honor had been endangered as the child was illegitimate, but his wife agreed to behave as if the child was his and that there was no other so as to retain her husband's honor. So, after the new baby was breastfed, he put her on his knee and gave her the name Karalynne, sprinkling her with water in front of the fire place.

Young Karalynne grew up with tough skin as she worked on the family farm and helped her mother around the house as one of the women of the property in preparation for the harsh Icelandic winter. She was adventurous and when she was young would climb the trees in the nearby forest and animal watch from the tallest of trees. Her stepfather occasionally went on raids and had weapons stocked around the house which Karalynne showed much interest in and was eventually taught to use.

By the time Karalynne was 10 she knew the woods like the back of her hand and while wondering to her favorite clearing. She happened to spot a dragon, an unconscious dragon. It looked like a newborn, so the girl simply picked it up and brought it home. Her family freaked out a little bit thinking it was a descend of Nidhogg or Fafnir, but after realizing that the dragon meant no harm it was quickly adopted and named Ormr. At this time Anneliese was beginning to drop hints about her real father, leather jacket, weird thing that he waved around, an accent that she couldn't place. Little details that made him seem like he could be anybody. She described him also as having very little hair which Karalynne found rather odd as most men she had seen seemed to be covered in it. Her mother also implied that he had a blonde female with him, his wife as far as she could tell. Though it was never explicitly said. Karalynne would realize years later that the man described was her father and not a made up story to tell by the fire in the cold chill of winter.
