IT WAS ENTIRELY TOO PEACEFUL

IT WAS ENTIRELY TOO PEACEFUL. That alarming tranquility was enough to startle the Original Hybrid in his sleep. Used to the unending music of the French Quarter, his bedroom was unusually quiet with only the rumble of summer rain washing the day into night, leaving the room lit dimly with a few sconces left on. However, the thrum of the storm outside was not what calmed him for he had opened his eyes to a peculiar sight—a dark haired woman curled against him.

"Rory."

"Klaus."

He was holding her close to him, his hand on top of her huge bump, which was oddly larger than he usually dreamed it was. Klaus guessed his mind had moved onto envisioning how pregnant she actually was now.

He wondered if he would get the chance to actually see her in real life like this again. Was it too late for them?

"You've certainly grown since I last saw you, love," he remarked, stretching the span of his hand over her stomach before rubbing his thumb over the spot his child kicked at.

"And you're still the same asshole. I missed you."

"An asshole who spent the last two months looking for you," he murmured into her hair, sighing reprehensibly. "I wish I wasn't just dreaming of you again. Though, I would think dream-Rory would be nicer at least."

She turned around in his arms to face him, a smile crinkling at her eyes. "Let's pretend I am real then. I'll be nice, I promise."

"Well, it doesn't really feel like that kind of dream," Klaus hummed contemplatively, his blue eyes narrowing with suspicion. "I'm not sure how to pretend you're actually here listening to me."

"Seriously?" Her nose wrinkled at his thinly-veiled innuendo. She sighed, "Fine...Tell me something I don't know."

He raised his brow at her.

"Nothing gross, obviously," she amended, not wishing to hear of his previous exploits in supernatural fights and gore.

"I told someone you were my girlfriend," Klaus laughed, admitting it to dream-Rory was the closest he would ever fess up to it to her. It was embarrassing enough he had actually said it to Genevieve else in the gist of getting her tp back off.

"Jesus, were you held at gunpoint or something? I said nothing gross," Rory fake-gagged into his chest.

He rolled his eyes. Ever so fiery, even in his dreams. "Semantics."

"Well, that's very cringe-worthy. Thanks for the honor, I guess."

Klaus chuckled, looking somber as he traced the curve of her cheekbone. "It's not about the fact that I called you such a nauseating term, it's that it finally struck how much I've taken you for granted these last few months. After I continue to disappoint those around me, I was a fool to assume you would ever put up with it. Obviously, I was wrong. And I may not be able to find you, or speak to you, but to know you are perfectly fine without me hurts more than I'll ever be able to admit to you in real life. In truth, you terrify me, Aurora Reyes. And I believe it may be a good thing. Your turn."
