----------------------------------------------------------------------
I had changed into a pair of stained jeans and a white tank top, putting Bill's shirt on the wash before tying my hair on a messy braid and getting to work on my next paint. I was halfway through with the last touches of color when I felt my phone vibrating on my back jean's pocket. I picked up, it was Georg; Gustav had to fly home the next morning, though Georg was staying a little longer for my birthday so the guys wanted me to go over for dinner. I hung up and finished up by signing my name on black paint. I went to my bathroom and washed away the paint and fixed my makeup careful not to apply much force into the sore spots.
When I was at the guys' place Gustav hugged me tight, apologizing for leaving so soon, but I was completely okay with it; he had a wedding to plan.
Just as I kissed Georg's cheek and received the usual random joke about my tan I looked at Bill coming out of the dining room with a grossed out expression.
"Well, what have you seen?" Gustav asked.
"I kinda need a second." Bill went to the kitchen and came back with a cigarette on his hand. "Remember Miss Cleavage?" He motioned to his chest. I nodded. "She appeared at the studio with this ridiculous..." Tom and said girl walked in, Tom's hand on her waist.
Georg put his arm over my shoulders and turned to me.
"Anyway...you're gonna love my girlfriend!" I smiled up at him with a sort of knot in my throat. "I tell her you're like a sister to me," that made me smile for real. "So I think you're gonna get along just fine." He winked at me.
I looked down at my red heels and then we went to the dining room, I sat next to Gustav, claiming it was only right I got to do some serious catching up with him before he left for another couple of months.
Tom sat across from his girl-toy introducing her as Kate. Her light brown hair was blonde at the ends and she wore the biggest amount of makeup on her face with a pair of heavy eyelashes and a black dress that could only be described as ridiculous.
Georg was sitting next to the girl and Bill was across from Gustav. The conversation I kept going with Gustav was completely in German, much to Kate's dismay, since she didn't know a word but which made me happy inside. Bill kept giving me this look of annoyance whenever Kate giggled, responding to something Tom had said.
"Okay, dessert!" Bill jumped from his chair and I went with him, excusing myself from the table. "What the fuck is going on with that girl?"
"Does it look like I know?" I helped him by placing the dirty dishes on the dishwasher.
He took a big pair of ice cream buckets from the freezer.
"You haven't even crossed word with her. Did something happen last night between Tom and you?"
"No." I lied through gritted teeth, though it seemed it was true and I had convinced myself something was going to change. "Nothing happened."
I placed clean dishes on the table and gave Bill the big spoon for serving the ice cream.
"Are you sure?" Bill asked again. I closed my eyes and leaned on the kitchen counter, taking a deep breath to avoid a meltdown.
"I'm sure. You know him, he's your bother: what could possibly happen between us two?" Bill stared at me with a serious expression. "Nothing, Bill. Nothing will ever happen."
