*Lily’s POV*

The stranger offered to help me up but I couldn’t stand… it was too painful.

“I could carry you?” She said in her deep but sweet voice. I nodded to this and she picked me up and carried me bridal style as though I weighed nothing.

“Thank… you..” I managed to whisper before my eyes closed. I was so tired and sore.

My eyes fluttered open and my stomach growled at the delicious smell of pancakes. Turning around I observed my surroundings.

I was in a vintage grey room with just a hint of red. The vanity table was white and looked antique. I glanced at my reflection in the vintage, brass mirror. I looked a mess. My hair was messy and tangled. My make up was smudged and not even visible anymore besides the black smudges underneath my eyes.

A knock on the door startled me. I didn’t know what to answer so I just kept quiet. The door opened with a soft squeak and the redhead lady who helped me last night’s head popped up in.

“You’re awake. How’d you sleep dearest?” She asked walking into the room and opening the curtains.

“Hmm.. morning…” I said sitting up. She sat next to me and looking me in my eyes and those pretty green-blue eyes held so much curiosity in them.

“I slept good thank you.” I looked around me again at the beautiful room. If I slept in her bed, then where did she sleep?

“Don’t worry. You’re in the spare room.” She said softly and stood up again.

“Breakfast is ready. After breakfast you could grab a nice warm bath.” She smiled and exited the room.

The food was amazing! I swear that I’ve never tasted anything better. With the pancakes she made some yummy tea.

“Thank you, it was heavenly.” She took the plate away and I just sat the looking around at the vintage house. It was kind if dark but still beautiful.

“The bathroom’s this way.” A deep womanly voice came from behind me. She walked around me and then towards the hall.

“I never caught your name.” She said once she stopped in front of a dark wooden door.

“Lily.” I said softly and gave an innocent smile.

“I’m Miranda Spellman. Nice to meet you.” Her voice competed with the creaking of the door.

“I don’t know if I have anything that’s going to fit you…” Miranda stared at me in thought.

“Run a bath so long and I’ll see what I can find for you.” She said disappearing again.

I did as she said and a few moments later she walked into the bathroom holding a black summer dress with pink flowers all over.

After cleaning up I went looking for Miranda walking down the hall and peeking though every door. I eventually found her in the living room where she sat smoking a cigarette and reading the paper.

“Sit down. Make yourself comfortable. I’ll grab us some tea and cookies.” She put the paper down and walked away again.

After a few short moments she came back holding tea and delicious cookies on a plate. She place them on the coffee table and sat down next to me.

“Lily… what happened to you last night?” She asked out of the blue. The memories came crawling back to me.

“I… I tried to stop him..” I whispered with tears falling from my eyes. “He was too strong and I was too drunk.” I looked down at my hand that were laying on my lap.

Two arms wrapped themselves around me and pulled me in. Miranda slowly stroked my hair and whispered into my ear.

“Everything will be alright. It happened. We will deal with this together.” She kept repeating that everything will be okay and somehow it felt better.

Later that day Miranda decided to take me home. She gave me her number and said to call if I ever needed anything and that she’ll be with me all the way.

“Will you be okay?” She asked me walking me to the door. She knocked lightly and before I could answer my mother opened it.

“Another one! Really?! What have I told you about this?! Have I not warned you?” She yelled reeking of alcohol.

“Mother! Please, I’m not in the mood-”

“I don’t give a fuck in what mood you’re in!” she was making a scene in front of one of the sweetest people I know. I looked towards Miranda who looked ready to slap my mother.

“Don’t look at her! Look at me! I’m the one talking to you, you little whore!” She threw her fist at me but Miranda stopped her just in time.

“That’s quite enough now.” She said calmly.

“We’re here to pick up Lily’s things. She’s going to stay with me from now on.”

“I am?” My eyes felt teary. Nobody ever did anything this nice for me. Much less an older woman who I hardly even know.
