This poem is about first love and first heartbreak. This isn't my favorite, but I wanted to share it to get feedback on it. I feel that it's easier to write sad poems, so I want to get better at writing happier ones. Feel free to leave a comment telling me how to improve!

it was summer when i first saw him

green eyes that glistened with an intensity i'd never known

curly hair that i wanted to loop-de-loop like the lace of my shoes

i take a step in his direction then rethink

he sees me falter and approaches instead, leaving his friends behind

a simple "hey" makes my heart spin round and round, like a ferris wheel

that smile, with those perfect teeth, had me swooning

the first words came and went

and so did the night

i went home, on top of the world

i lie on my bed, dreaming about everything that was said

maxwell was his name

"but call me max"

summer came and went

delightfully passing the time with him

school is around the corner

will everything be the same?

i search for answers in his eyes, but they're never looking in my direction

i feel myself drift from him, like a lonely iceberg in a lonely sea

there he is, one leg on the lockers, one on the ground

he was cool and casual at the same time

i pass by to see what he'll do

those green eyes that i once thought were so beautiful, glazed over my body

and then looked away
