"Well, that was awkward." Says Sam.
We all laugh at her.
For a few minutes we all stay silent. Not having much in common with Jace is hard enough, but with two other girls, we won't have much to talk about. This was going to be a boring night.
"So," says Sam. Trying to break the silence. "Why did you have to repeat?"
I sit there, waiting for an answer, but then I notice the question was directed towards me.
"Well, I wasn't doing well enough. With grades or socially."
"What do you mean by socially?"
I didn't want to tell this stranger my school reputation, but I was never going to see her again anyway.
"I was bullied quite severely, so after about a year of that I got up my confidence to bully those who hurt me the year before. But the teachers and principals noticed that I wasn't keeping my grades up with the rest of the year, because of that. So I repeated."
I sigh. I could've just said I was bullied!? I didn't have to go into detail.
"I'm sorry." She says.
I nod. We were almost at the cinemas so I was too bothered to include myself in their conversation about how Alice and Jace met.
Eventually we were in the parking lot, and I found a park. We get out of the car. Whilst walking into the shopping centre, I can see Jace and Alice holding hands. Gee, so much for being 'just friends.' I have a feeling that both Sam and I are going to be third wheels.
The shopping centre Charlestown is packed with people. Well, it is almost Christmas. Probably last minute shopping.
We eventually find the cinema amongst the maze of people. Jace and I wait in line for tickets, and Alice and Sam wait in line for food.
After five to ten minutes of waiting we find each other and walk in to the room we will watch the movie in. We take our seats in the dim lighted area, and hand out the food.
Sam sits on the outside, next to Alice. Alice sits next to Jace in the middle, and I sit on the outside next to Jace.
Yep, definitely third wheels.
I look over to Sam, and she looks nervous. Like really nervous, and guilty. Her eyes closed. I turn back to the screen, a little bit confused as to what might have happened with her. I turn to face her again.
"Are you alright Sam?" I ask.
She hesitates, then nods.
The lights darken even more and the movie begins.
