My phone starts ringing and I pick it up whilst Sally gets out of the car.

"Thanks for the ride Sam, I'll call you later okay?"

"No problem, okay." I tell Sally before focusing my attention to the phone call. "It's Darcy." I answer it. "Hey are you okay?"

"Honestly, I'm not okay." I can hear him sniffle through the phone, he sounds like he is crying.

"What's wrong?" Avery signals to me trying to tell me to go, but I hold up my hand to signal a polite way of "shut up."

"Someone's broken into the house and mum is gone, and I don't know where she is, and-" he seems breathless. Now I know he has and is obviously crying.

"Darcy, calm down. It's okay, I have to drop off a friend at home but I will be right over at your house. Okay?"

"Alright, I'll see you soon." He sniffles.

"And Darcy?" I say before I hang up.

"Yeah?"

"This will all be over soon, okay. It has to be."

"Yep, I agree." He says. "Be quick okay."

I hang up and drive as far over the speed limit as I can.

"Is everything okay?" Asks Avery.

I know she is new and everything, and I should be nice to make her feel welcomed and not like an outsider, but she is the last thing on my mind. There are so many weird things going on, and I can't keep track of it all.

"Yeah, a friends just in trouble." I answer.

"Is his name Darcy?"

"Yeah, how did you know?" I don't turn my head to look at her.

"Our parents were friends when we were younger."

"But how did you know it was Darcy in trouble?"

"Lucky guess." She shrugs her shoulders.

"That was one hell of a guess." I turn my head now to look at this girl. There is something weird about her. And being the judgmental person that I am, I have already made up my mind that I don't like her one bit.

"Don't drop me off at home, go and see if he is alright."

"Are you sure?"

"Sam he is one of my oldest friends. What did he say is wrong with him anyway?"

"He didn't say anything." I lie. She purses her lips and can tell that I'm lying but doesn't say anything.

We head straight to his house, I park outside of his driveway. We get out and I run up the hill, up the path and up the concrete stairs to his front door. I knock loudly, but he doesn't respond. I decide to knock again, but still no answer. So I walk in, and look around. It's my first time being in his house, so I don't know where anything is. Or his room.

I walk quickly down a hallway, and look into each room I pass. I come to the last one on the left and see everything trashed. I look around, and see a crying Darcy kneeling in the middle of the mess.

I quickly jump to be beside him and give him a hug. "We will get her back," I tell him. "I promise." He cries in my arms for a few minutes, and then I remember that Avery is here with us. I turn around to see if she is standing at the doorway like she was before, but she had walked off.

"Do you know a girl called Avery? Or well you used to?" I ask him quietly.

"No, I've never even heard of the name Avery before. Why?"

"Because there is a girl here who claims to have been best friends with you when you were both younger."

"No, where is she?"

"I don't know where she went. But she knew it was you when you called."

"Maybe she saw the contact when it was ringing."

"No, she never got the chance to even take a glance at my phone..." I look at him with a worried expression and he returns it.

We jump to our feet to search for the stranger. He walks to the kitchen to find her looking through his cutlery drawers.

"What are you doing?" Darcy asks bravely. "How did you know who I am and what was happening to me?"

She grabs something and quickly puts it behind her back before we get the chance to see what it is. Darcy makes me stand behind him as if she were dangerous.

"I knew what was happening, because I was the one who caused it," she smirks. Darcy's mouth drops slightly open. "And yes, I do know where your mother is, and I will answer another question I know your thinking." She pauses for a dramatic effect that failed. "You will get to see her again-"

Darcy's lets out a sigh of relief. "Possibly in heaven." She says. Now Darcy's stopped breathing completely.

"What do you mean 'possibly?'" He asks.

"Well," she begins. "If you answer this simple question for me, I will give you back your mum, your life will be completely back to normal and you can do whatever you want with your pathetic lives." Darcy looks at his feet. "But if you don't," she smiles once again. " I will have to get rid of you and your entire family. Plus, maybe your friend who's been with you from the very beginning." She looks over at me.

"Look, I have no idea what you are talking about," Darcy says with partial confidence.

"Where is it?" she asks.

"Where is what?" he questions.

"You know what I'm talking about. Does a blue floating box answer your question? Does that sound familiar?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Where is it? Give it to me and I'll spare your mother and friend," she threatens.

"I don't know where it is," he says confidently. He only contains the confidence because he knows its true, and so do I. I am his witness.

"Stop lying to me Darcy. You see a blue box and you don't feel the urge to pick it up an take it home!? Please, don't give me that shit. Just give it to me know and you wont regret it, I promise."

"I would give it to you if I had it, I swear." he pleads.

"Fine then, don't tell me." she smirks. "You can join your poor little mother until we get the location out of you."

She points the knife towards us both, and trapped in a corner, we scream.
