The entire house was clean, thanks to everyone for finally joining in–except Jaz, who was on door duty.
I felt eerily calm. Normally that wouldn't be weird, but I was scaring myself with how well I was acting. Usually, I'd still feel some rage after the day I had, but right now I felt numb.
That was good, right?
After finishing my section, I took back my usual spot on the wall against the storage closet that held my two friends hostage.
It was working out surprisingly well. Whenever each of them had to go to the bathroom, Jaz would literally drag them there and only let go for them to do their business. Emma tried to make a run for it once but Jasmine was faster. We even snuck in snacks and drinks so they wouldn't die.
But there was still no talking.
Sighing, I got up and rested my forehead against the wooden door. "Can you guys please stop being babies and please talk? I'm not asking you to make up. I just think some communication is needed."
Silence.
Furrowing my brows, I unlocked the door and slowly cracked it open. For a second I thought it was empty but soft sobs broke through the barrier of silence. My eyes flickered from corner to corner.
In the very back, I saw a sight that made me want to cry. Emma was curled into Will and balling her eyes out. She hadn't noticed my presence yet. Will did though. He looked up at me and shook his head slightly.
I took the hint and silently closed the door again, but didn't lock it. There was obviously some talking going on if she was willing to cry in his arms.
Relief flooded through me as I tiptoed out of the hallway. Everything was going to be okay.
I hope.
Jaz bumped into me as I was leaving. I grabbed her shoulders, spun her around, and led her out of the hallway. She gave me a questioning look but I didn't stop until we were perched on the couch in the living room. Everyone else was already there just watching a random movie but no one was really paying attention.
"I think they're doing better," I told her. "Just don't disturb them. The door is unlocked so they'll come out when they're ready."
The couch dipped and Dylan took a seat, getting comfortable. He put his head in my lap and legs on Jaz's. "You were totally wrong for doing that."
"Do you think Emma's going to tell him about you two?" Jaz asked, drumming her fingers against his legs.
The color drained from Dylan's face. I didn't blame him, I'd be scared too. Will was scary when he wanted to be.
"You can take him," I replied with hesitation. It was a total lie. Jaz just snorted.
"Why? What happened with Emma and Dylan?" Reece piped in. He was sitting on the other couch, but upside down. His head almost touched the ground while his long legs curled over the back of the sofa. His face was turning an alarming shade of red.
"They fucked," Jaz bluntly replied.
Reece quickly scrambled to his feet. The sudden action made him dizzy. He paused his freakout to clutch his spinning head and fall back on the couch, nearly hitting Dean in the process. Then he frantically looked at us. "He did what?"
"You heard," Dylan nonchalantly replied.
I lightly smacked his cheek. "You keep that attitude up, I won't protect you against Will." He was acting too cocky for his own good. He didn't even seem like he regretted the whole situation. Knowing him, he didn't. But still, he should. Will was a good friend and he was a terrible one.
