Chapter Thirty Six: Goodbyes and Coronation

Hwanwoong POV

After Hwanwoong and the others get ready in the morning. His arms are still hurting from helping to tidy up the city. Then they leave the house and walk towards the big camp outside the village. Everyone is packing their things and disassembling the tents. The group goes through the rows of tents until they find who they are looking for. They embrace their eight friends tightly. "Goodbye! Don't be too sad, we're planning to go back to Doru because our families are there. So we will see us there.", Hongjoon says. "But I will possibly not see you again. I have to go somewhere else...", Seoho says. "What? Where will you go? Are you never coming back to Doru?", San asks confused. "I can't tell you where I'm going but it is far away from here. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to come back."
"I'm going to miss you my friend!", Mingi exclaims with tears in his eyes and hugs Seoho. "I hope you stay healthy and safe.", Seonghwa says. "Goodbye. I hope we can meet again.", Yunho says. "Please don't forget about us.", Jongho says. "I hope they have good food where you go.", Yeosang says. "I'm glad I was able to meet you.", San says and pats Seoho on the back. "Goodbye. Please stay safe and don't get hurt.", Wooyoung says. "Goodbye my friend.", Hongjoon says.
After one final hug they move on to the camp of the elves. As soon as he sees them Hwanwoong runs towards his parents. "Mom, dad! I don't want you to go!", he cries out and hugs them both. "Hwanwoong we can't stay. The king needs us. But we promise that we will visit you.", his mother says. "I will miss you.", his father tells him. "I will write you.", Hwanwoong promises them. They hug a few more minutes then Hwanwoong lets go and wipes his tears away. "Goodbye.", he says. "Goodbye son."
They wave goodbye as the group moves on to the dwarves camp. Hwanwoongs father is packing his things. Hwanwoong sneaks up to him and hugs him from behind. The dwarf flinches. "Ah Hwanwoong! You almost gave me a heart attack." "I'm going to miss you dad." "I'm going to miss you too. But I will write you." "Maybe I can visit you in the mountains. I've never been there before and I would really like to see them.“
They hug for a little bit longer and shed some tears before they wave goodbye to each other.

The group goes back to village until it's officially time to say goodbye to the other armies. Everyone gathers outside the village. The king gives the generals and other kings a hug and says goodbye to them. Then he holds a short speech: “Thank you for coming to help us. We wouldn't be able to conquer the city without you. I wish you a good journey back to your home. Goodbye!“
Everyone waves goodbye until the hundreds of soldiers disappear into the distance.

Three weeks later the royal family has settled into their new home in Doru. Hwanwoong wakes up in his quiet single bedroom. He gets ready and puts on his new clothes that were gifted to him by the king. He meets up with his friends in throne room. They wait with the other important people of the city at the side of the room. Mira and the twins stand at front and Dongmyeong holds the crown. The king enters and walks to the front. He kneels down in front of Mira.

“You have conquered the city and claimed your spot as the new ruler of Doru. Do you promise to protect the land and it's people?“, Mira says. “I do.“, Domenico answers. “Do you promise to always be honest and fair?“ “I do.“ “Do you promise to not cause harm to your people?“ “Yes.“ “I now crown you king Domenico, ruler of Doru.“
Mira takes the crown and puts it on the kings head. Everyone claps. The king walks outside and the other people in the room follow him. Outside all citizens have gathered and are cheering for the king. King Domenico holds a speech but during the speech Hwanwoong spaces out. He thinks about what happens next... Seoho is going back to heaven.

After the coronation they have a really nice lunch with the king but the mood seems to be down. No matter how hard Seoho tries, only the king and the queen laugh at his jokes. “Guys, what is up with you?“, Seoho asks. “You are leaving tomorrow, aren't you?“, Geonhak says. “Yes. But shouldn't we spend one last fun day together?“ The others nod. “Wait has the last key to open the door even been found?“, Ravn asks. “I don't have it. Mira do you have the key for the basement door?“, the king shouts. Mira comes over from the room next door. “The big key? No it hasn't been found.“, she says. “Then maybe we should search for it.“, Keonhee suggests.
They split up to search in different areas of the castle. Hwanwoong has to search in the kitchen and the servants rooms. He tries to use his dwarven senses to sense if there is gold nearby but he only senses the silver wear in the cabinets next door. So he starts searching manually. On the cupboard? Nothing. Next to the stove maybe? Nothing. Between the lettuce? Also nothing. They search for hours until all that is left is the throne room. “So many people go in and out of there. Someone would have found it if it was there.“, Hwanwoong says. “Yes. Since at least yesterday when they decorated the room for the coronation it would have been found there.“, Geonhak states. “Let's search there anyway just in case.“, Seoho says. They start searching in the throne room and then after five minutes: “I found it!“, Keonhee shouts. “It was behind that flowerpot in the corner.“, he explains. “It must have slipped out of Esmeraldas mages pocket during the fight.“, Dongju says. Keonhee gives the key to Mira and after that
they spend the rest of the day playing hide and seek in the castle.
