Prologue
Philomena hugged her knees to her chest.
Five days had passed.
Five days since that terrible day.
That terrible day when her mom glared at her, her eyes like the inside of her house's fireplace.
That terrible day when her mom had snarled at her to keep her mouth shut about what had been seen in the small kitchen while her father was away, and in his place, another man stood.
Kissing her mom.
"Philomena?" A voice called out.
"Y-yes, Marsha?" Philomena stuttered.
"Are you alright? You've been in the bathroom for quite sometime and Mrs. Larissa sent me to check on you." Marsha replied quietly.
"I-I'm fine! I'll be back in class in a moment," Philomena told her through the stall wall.
There was no reply, but Philomena heard Marsha's footsteps as she exited the bathroom.
Philomena sighed and stood up, she'd been in the bathroom worrying for too long now. It was time to go to class.
She glanced at herself in the mirror above the sink for a brief moment, hoping that her anxiety didn't show.
It didn't.
Every strand of strawberry blonde hair was in place, and her hazel eyes were calm and unreadable.
Perfect.
---
Jewel bit down on her nails anxiously, glancing from side to side.
An hour had passed.
An hour since she saw the student body president candidate shove her opponent down the stairwell.
An hour since the future student president and her goons with all of their makeup threatened to shove her down the stairwell with her.
"Miss Jewel, do your nails taste that good?"
Jewel quickly looked down at her nails, rough and wet from being chewed on.
"N-no, Mr. Simmons. They do not," she sighed.
"Then could you please answer my question?"
"Yes, sir. Um... What was it?"
Several students snickered in the background and Mr. Simmons repeated his question.
Great, not only was she being threatened by the student body president candidate, she was the laughing stock of her math class.
Great.
Hi everybody! AppleStrueselWaffle here! I'd like to thank you for reading the first chapter of my new story, Zip It, Lock It.
I will try to update this story as often as I possibly can. Which is probably a lot because I don't have much going on in my life.
Critiques are appreciated! So if there's anything you want to say, just say it!
Thank you for reading!
