The orange eared figure named Fern removed the cloak that had been covering his body. He then took the cloak and face mask off in one quick motion. The wide eyed one named Frost was taking more time with his. It looked as if he was treating the cloak with care, like if it were a person.Fern on the other hand just whipped his on to the ground with vigor.
This was the first time he was able to fully see the two of them. Fern was broad shouldered, yet young in appearance. He had strong arms and even stronger looking legs all covered in black spots. Brite also noticed a long spotted orange tail coming from behind him. Brite traced his eyes up to meet Fern's face. As Brite had noticed previously he had large orange cat ears, but now he could also see the haircut that went with them. Orange hair came up in large spiky amounts near his ears and around the side of his head.
Fern's face was forefronted by the four dots under both his eyes. Then around his eyes there was dark lining that seemed to accent the fiery glow in his orange eyes.
"So now you know our names. Just don't go sayin em everywhere."
Fern said with a head shake.
Brite looked over to Frost. He was much thinner than his brother Fern. He was Muscular in his own sense being that he had a flat stomach and powerful legs. He had skin that was much lighter in color, and instead of spots he had stripes. A tail also stuck out from behind Frost, but it was fluffier and white.   Brite kept looking til he met his face. Frost's neck was thinner in width than Fern's, and so was his ears.  Frost's ears were smaller and were white rather than orange. Frost's hair was white and black striped. It was long in the back and ran down over the sides of his head. There was also a distinct blue streak of hair running from the front middle of his hair all the way to the back.
Brite also noticed how all of Frost's facial features, such as his nose and mouth, were all smaller. There were also two little stripes under his beautiful eyes. Frost's eyes were a contrast from the rest of his face, being with how they were so large. They almost had a light blue glow to them.
Frost's eyes locked with Brite's for a moment then he turned away with an embarrassed look on his face.
"So uhm... we hope you'll stay the night at our camp. At least until we can find you someone to teach you basic phrases."
Brite didn't really realize the actual physical relation between the two given how they looked so different, but he understood that they shared a bond of some sort.
The brothers were wearing stranger clothing compared to what Brite had seen the people in the market wearing. Fern was dressed in a kind of baggy cloth shirt and strange leather shorts. He wore wraps of cloth around his feet and up his calf.
This is when Brite noticed that they also had long nailed toes and a long claw sticking out of the back of their feet.
Frost wore shorts and foot wraps too, but the shorts were smaller and the foot wraps went above his knee. He was adorned also in a small cloth shirt that didn't quite make it to his waist and was showing more of his shoulders.
Fern sat down by his cloak that was splayed out on the ground.
"Ya know you don't look entirely human. Heh kinda funny of me to say I know. Now you probably can't understand me, but if you can I'd like you to tell me something. What are you?"
Frost turned his face into a kind of pout.
"Fern, you should know that a question like that offends some people."
"C'mon you can't say that you're not just a little confused. I mean he doesn't look entirely human, and he's not tytenian like us."
"That's not an excuse for a rude question like that anyways."
Frost said with his arms crossed. He then sat down cross legged by the fire next to his cloak. Brite sat down with them with his knees up and then he put his arms around his knees to hold them in place.
Fern looked at Frost with a sneer on his face.
"You trust too many people, and it'll hit you in the gut just as your guard drops."
"Well I think you trust too little people, and that's going to make you lonely."
Fern's sneer disappeared from his face and he looked up to the sky. Brite followed Fern's gaze and his eyes met the stars that had once surrounded all around him. Fern then looked back down at Frost and Brite.
"Well I'm sure that our immigration knight lik-"
"No, she doesn't."
Frost said with his eyes closed and with a slight smile. Fern's mouth was stuck in the same position as when Frost had stopped him.
"Well maybe even just a li-"
"No."
"She could actu-"
"Not a chance."
Brite couldn't tell what was going on, but he could tell that this was a regular occurrence. He rocked side to side with his knees up close to his face. He began to hum a tune that he was making up in his head. He watched the brothers play out their nightly conversation with a little joy. He thought they were funny in their own unintentional way.
Fern looked down with his arms limp. He had a defeated look on his face.
"We should probably get some sleep, cuz now we gotta make a delivery and find a common teacher."
Fern said as he began to roll out his cloak more. Frost looked over at Brite and held out his cloak.
"Here you can sleep on mi-"
"He can have mine."
Fern interrupted.
"What kinda older brother and host would I be without offering."
He said with the roll of his hand. Then he patted on his rolled out cloak and gestured for Brite to sit on it. Brite gladly understood the sign and crawled over then sat down on the cloak. Frost was surprised by the sudden generosity of his brother.
"Where will you sleep?"
He asked with concern.
"C'mon you know I can warm up the ground and it's practically the same."
Fern responded back. He started to snap his nails together around the ground to warm up the ground. Frost's eyes seemed to glow for a moment.
"O-ok, are you sure?"
Fern did not respond. He was already turning around and around the ground to find the perfect spot. Then he curled up and laid down on the ground.
Frost looked over at Brite who was sitting on the cloak.
"Good night Brite."
He said with a smile.
Brite smiled back and held up a V with his fingers. Frost then held his hand close to the fire and scratched his nails together. The campfire went out. Frost curled up on his cloak and closed his eyes. Brite's eyes adjusted to the darkness instantly. He put his hands behind his head and laid down on the outstretched cloak.
He looked up at the ocean of stars above him. He was taking in all the sounds around him. Bugs of all kinds were chirping away. He could here Frost making a noise that wasn't really snoring. It was more like a cat purring. Fern however was dead silent.
Brite thought about his day and how it was his first day alive. He thought of all the small kindnesses that was now a part of him. He thought of the deer, the woman, and now Frost and Fern. All of them had shown him kindness. Not because they had to, and not because they knew him. They did it because they were good hearted people. With this he closed his eyes and drifted into sleep.
