This chamber that they had walked into was slightly smaller than the grand ones that they had seen before. The walls all around seemed cracked and crumbling like a puzzle made form rocks and moss.
Overgrowth had consumed the room in green grass and moss. The center of the room was draped in light that trickled down from a ceiling held in place by outstretching roots.
At the far end of the room was a collection of boulders that were interconnected by vines and beds of flowers that has grown into the rock itself.
Above this collection of flowers and discarded rubble was an intricate pedestal. Many pedestals like this hung from other sides of the room, but this one proved to be special.
Placed upon the pedestal like jewelry in a display case it sat. It was a flower with petals that were white on the outside with a core of blue light and golden hairs.
This would be the plant to save the boy's life, and it seemed that nothing stood in their way of retrieving it. Fern saw it and pointed across te room to tell the others.
"That's gotta be the flower right?"
Tessra tilted her head up to follow where his finger pointed.
"Yeah that should be it."
"Sweet, looks like we might make it outta here without running into any monsters. I'd call this a steal."
Brite started to move towards the flower.
"Let's get it."
His walk turned into a run. He was going to use the rocks as a launch point for him to jump up to the pedestal and grab the flower.
Tessra was busy eyeing the gathering of rocks and overgrowth that sat before the pedestal. She gelt like something was off with how the plants were growing on it. The vines shouldn't have interlocked the boulders this tight.
That was when she caught it out of the corner of her eye. A small flash of green fire in between the the rocks. It flashed for only a second but Tessra caught it.
She whipped a hand out as if trying to stop Brite from moving.
"Wait, stop it's a!-"
The rocks from the pile swung upward at Brite. He caught them with his feet and jumped off and away from the attack. He flipped back in the air and landed on one knee. He looked up to see the rocks gathering up from the ground as if they were alive.
They were plucked up from the ground and locked in place by large vines. They swelled up into the shape of a human.
A burst of green flame radiated at it's chest. The rocks slammed together tight scattering dust about. The creature swung it's arms back and mad a sound comparable to the sound of a forest's oaks groaning in the wind. The room shook and debris fell loose from the ceiling to clatter to the ground. The grasses swayed with the burst of wind and sound emanating from the creature.
A display flashed over Brite's eyes and scanned over the creature in yellow light. The voice of the suit called out to him.
"Species: Giant. A large magic based species with physical forms made up of natural materials and powerful unstable magic. Engage with caution, Giants most often display hostility and may overpower your current physical and magical ability."
Tessra drew her sword from its sheath and gripped her buckler to her arm. She gripped the leather straps of her shield tight and readied into a fighting stance.
Frost and Fern however stood there with fear in their eyes. They had never actually won any fight, much less actually had one with a giant.
Fern was frozen in place with terror. The roar of the giant had shaken him to his core and belittled him. Back when he was young he had seen creatures like these before. They would trample entire houses in just so they move on by. Thoughts rushed through Fern's head like a buzzing swarm of agitated hornets.
The giant turned it's head with a deep terrestrial groan. It's sights were now locked onto him. Green flames blazed and jetted from it's core with hisses and spurts. It stomped towards Fern with surprisingly alarming speeds. Time seemed to slow for Fern as his mind rushed in and out with emotions of fear.
"Damn it, I can't move. This thing will kill me if I don't get out of the way and move!"
The giant swung its heavy fist at Fern.
"Heh, you know I kinda thought I'd do a bit more with my life than this. I even thought for a moment that I'd do right by the old man and make a name for myself. Now I'll have died not being able to protect my own brother from this thing. Guess I never did get strong enough..."
The giant's fist loomed over him and shadows went over his face, But then Tessra used her shield and shoved him out of the way.
He was pulled back into the moment just as he saw the fist of the giant collide with Tessra.
"No! Why did you do that!? It was supposed to be me!"
A shockwave blasted through the air that whipped the wind around, and sent Tessra flying through the air. She smashed through the wall sending dust and debris rocketing everywhere. She continued to move until she hit a pillar from the previous room. Her back cracked into the pillar and she coughed out blood. Her weapons only now fell from her hands and dropped with her to the floor.
She hit the ground on her side with a thud. She tried to keep her eyes open as the lights around her darkened and dimmed. Fern shouted out from across the room.
"TESSRA, TESSRA!"
Her eyes closed and she fainted from consciousness.
