Fern shook off his defeat mainly by the surprise of what Brite could do. They did not believe that someone who didn't even know the common language could actually keep up with them, much less do it in such a grandiose way.
Fern surveyed the road around.
"There should be the gates to a village called Hevar somewhere here."
His eyes were finally met with an arched way of wood with a sign hanging down. "Hevar" it read.
"Bingo."
Fern said with a point of his finger. He turned his head back to Frost.
"You still got what we need?"
"Yeah."
Frost reached for a small satchel pouch tied to his side. He opened the flap to reveal something wrapped in cloth. Fern looked at the object then turned his eyes back to Frost.
"I'm not gonna be running as fast right now so I'll take it."
Frost nodded and threw the object to Fern. He caught it and quickly put it in his own side pouch.
"Not sure what the old man wants with this, but he seemed way to insistent on getting it."
"I'm sure he's got something planned for it already."
The three of them walked down the path and to the gateway. As they got closer Brite could hear the sound of running water. They passed through the village gates and Brite was met by a stunning site. Small interconnected rivers everywhere. They were in between houses and shops. They passed underneath houses that curved upwards and allowed boats to pass through.
The water sparkled in the morning sun like the scales of a blue serpent. Travelers went and came from boats being docked underneath oddly shaped inns that allowed several boats to be kept underneath them.
Frost and Fern kept walking along as they had seen this about a hundred times or more. Brite however was enthralled to the beauty of this place. He saw all of the things around him from the old wooden boats to their grizzled rowers to be new and exciting.
"C'mon keep up."
Fern called out from behind him.
Brite snapped out of his trance and came up to follow behind them. They were talking about what they thought their delivery client was going to do with whatever they got.
"Maybe we can just see what it is."
"No Fern, he specifically said to not look at what we were delivering."
"Aw c'mon not even just a peek."
"No."
Frost and Fern argued for a long while about whether or not they should see what they were actually delivering. It was by then that they had reached a sort of town center. There was a center three sided notice board for different kinds of work. From caravan guard to monster slaying it seemed like this board had all kinds of quest work.
Figures in black and brown leather spiked armors gathered around the quest board, not so much looking at the offers as they were loitering.
Brite was so focused now at keeping behind Frost and Fern that he didn't even realize the hulking figure walking towards him. He bumped Brite's shoulder with his hip with how large he was.
"Oi, watch it there little man."
The figure turned around to reveal their massive jutting horns and large underbite. This figure was a troll. Troll's were large imposing figures with plenty of muscle, teeth, and anger management problems. He had on shiny black leather armor with straps going across his dirty bare chest. He wore brown leather pants with a battle kilt studded with iron.
He poked a large meaty finger at Brite's chest, and it quite nearly knocked him over.
"Listen ere you're not gonna want to make it onto my pounding list runt, so watch yourself."
The troll said while spitting on practically every syllable.
Frost turned to see the troll talking to Brite and took immediate concern. He rushed over to Brite's side. Fern took notice as well and did the same. Frost grabbed Brite's arm and began to pull him away from the encounter.
"I'm really sorry sir, this won't happen again."
Frost said with an apologetic yet fearful smile.
The troll tilted his head in curiousity upon seeing the two brothers.
"Aren't yous two the delivery boys for that old wizard?"
Fern stepped in front of Brite with a serious look on his face.
"Who's asking?"
"Is just that I rememba that old man havin some pretty nice Magik items that could fetch a pretty penny."
The troll said with a yellow toothed smile.
"An if you're back in town that means ya gots yourselves somethin to deliva."
The troll quickly swung his arm round and picked up Fern's leg in his massive hands. He held Fern upside down and began to shake him to see if he had anything on him.
His satchel unfurled and the cloth covered object began to fall to the ground. Frost jumped up and caught it in midair. The troll dropped Fern and he used his tail to quickly land on his feet. Brite put himself in a ready stance. Fern got down lower to the ground and the three of them prepared to move.
"Frost, Brite get ready to play keep away!"
Brite acknowledged his name with a quick nod and Frost gave a thumbs up.
The troll sneered up his nose and roared. He threw both his arms out to try and catch Frost. He did the splits to duck and threw up the object. Fern leaped over the troll's outstretched arms and grabbed it from the air. The troll swung his arm at Fern and he tossed the object to Brite as he just barely landed to duck underneath the swing. Brite caught it and held it close to his chest.
The troll set his angry eyes on him and smashed one fist to the ground. Brite rolled to the side, and the troll smashed his other hand down and Brite got to his feet and dodged back. Fern crawled up the troll's back and jumped off his horns. Brite threw the object to him and he caught it and threw it to Frost in one quick motion.
The troll saw Fern jumping down and he threw up his arms and backhanded Fern with a blow that sent him flying through the air. He flew far away from Frost and Brite, and landed to the ground with a few tumbles. He crashed into the wall beside the door of an inn with his legs over his head. The wall shuttered with his impact and he was left trying to get back the wind that was knocked out of him.
Just then the inn door slammed open and out stepped an a strong looking girl in armor. She had on a set of metal shoulder guards, elbow guards, knee guards and gauntlets. She had on chain mail that was just cut halfway down her bicep. Over that she wore a long cloth tarp that went down past her knees. Leather pants with triangle etching went down her legs and ednded with dark leather blade boots. The tarp itself was emblazened with the symbol of a double sided axe. She had a utility belt with multiple compartments. On her back she had a sheathed broadsword and a wooden buckler.
Her orange hair was tied in a long ponytail. Her eyes were a dark green, but the most noticeable thing about her was in the middle of her face. A long scar ran horizontally across her nose.
Fern took immediate notice to her just as she had noticed him. He tried to speak with what little strength he could muster in his lungs.
"H-hey Tessra."
She looked away from him to see Frost and Brite just barely missing the onslaught of attacks from the troll. She sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Can't a knight eat in peace anymore."
She casually strode up to where Brite and Frost were still frantically running about like scurrying mice before a cat.
"Hey dead brain, if you keep fighting I'm gonna have to give you a write up."
The troll stopped his rampage to look down at the girl. His look of wild anger slowly turned into a mild grin. His mild grin then turned into a chuckle, and that turned into a full laugh.
"Hehehehehe, oh little lady thas hilarious! Oh no she's gonna give me a write up hehehehe!"
The troll said insultingly with tears of laughter in his eyes. The girl only looked back at him with a blank expression.
"You have two options. Option A: You take the write up and walk away. Option B: I punch you so hard your horns fly off and you go home crying to whatever disgusting creature you call a mother."
The girl said while keeping her expression.
The troll stopped laughing and put his hand up to scratch his broad chin.
"How's about this little lady, option C: I POUND YOU INTO THA GROUND!!!"
The troll scrunched up his face in fury and through a punch straight at her face with the speed and power of a charging bull.
The girl raised one gauntleted hand and caught the punch with the noise of a thunder clap. Wind from the change in air pressure made her hair and tarp flow with its direction.
The troll spread a look of surprise across his face for a moment, but it quickly turned back to rage. He threw another punch that landed with the same deafening result into her hand.
She held both of his clenched fists now in her own metal clasped hands. She turned her neck to the right and the left with a cracking noise.
"I personally hoped you would choose this option."
The troll looked at her with a mix of confusion and anger. She threw both his arms back which made him take two steps back. She used this time to pull out her buckler shield, but she left her sword sheathed. She ran at the troll and jumped up in the air to reach his head. She took her right hand and gripped one of the troll's horns. She threw his head into the ground with a resounding thud.
She landed back to the ground and kicked the troll's face with a force that set him upright again. The troll grasped his bloodied nose as he threw a punch with his opposite hand. She dodged just slightly back and watched his attack fly by. Her hair seemed to drift in the wind less like a part of her, and more like her own war banner.
The troll punched again and again and again. Each attack she dodged with ease. He took his other hand off his nose and moved them up above his head.
"THAS ENOUGH FROM YOU!"
He sent his fists down with an impact that shattered the earth in front of him. He was sure that even if she dodged back she would be hit by the shockwave, but she did not dodge. Instead she jumped. She brought her feet down on his gargantuan hands that were still on the ground.
"No, that's enough from you."
She wound her shield arm back and brought it forth to his face with a might that could rend dozens iron shields and decimate an entire siege tower. It hit with a thunderous bang and it sent the troll flying.
His horns separated from his head and he hit the ground with the sound of a falling cow. He gripped at his head to realize his horns were gone. He looked at the girl with fear in his eyes. She looked back with the fire of a warrior in her eyes. He scrambled up from the ground and ran off in tears.
This tale worthy feat was witnessed all around by the other people around the town center. She looked all around at the onlookers gawking at the spectacle she had put on.
"Move it."
She said quickly and with a quick gesture of the head.
The townsfolk immediately got back to their daily work some out of fear others out of respect.
Who is this mighty warrior? She is a Knight of Runnarra, and her name is Tessra Rune.
