"Alright....Kaida are you ok?" Hawks asked. Like every single time that Kaida and Hawks interacted Kaida decided to reply back, "I'm fine. Don't worry about me." Hawks seemed mildly upset with her answer.
"Well, if we're all ok. I'm going to ask you three some questions." Nari, Kino, and Kaida braced themselves for the tsunami of inquiries. They had already talked to each other earlier about this and decided to hide the whole "We-have-an-evil-enemy-who-wants-to-drink-our-blood-from-a-chalice-and-his lackey-used-to-be-a-friend..thing."
"First thing's first. What happened to you two?" Principal Nezu asked with that unnerving, non-changing expression. Kaida inhaled sharply, "We thought we saw a cat or something in that alleyway and when we entered we just sort of.....got ambushed, I suppose." The explanation seemed to be satisfactory considering Nezu was taking lots of notes.
"I see, well did you see anything before the buildings collapsed?" Nezu was still writing even though they hadn't said anything yet. "Umm.....no....I mean other than the buildings collapsing.." Nari mumbled, she twiddled her thumbs nervously. Hawks was in the corner watching all of them curiously, In a way he was watching how they reacted to this sort of thing. He had managed to figure out their personalities easily, well the twins were simple but Kaida seemed more complex and she had barely talked to him. His eyes narrowed at the back of Kaida's head.
"What are you hiding?" He thought to himself.
"Are you sure that's all you saw?" Aizawa asked from his darkened Batman corner. Nari was holding Kino's hand so tight that their knuckles were turning white. If any of them spilled one piece of information that didn't fit their story, things would get complicated fast.
"We're positive. Right, Nari?" Nari nodded once she heard Kaida say her name. It was a habit whenever she heard her name to nod, whatever the question was.
"I see. Well, I suppose there is nothing else to say. I hope that you get well soon and I hope to see you in class as soon as possible." Nezu said, clicking his pen. The three young students stood in unison, bowed, and left the room. Hawks followed them, still staring holes in the back of Kaida's head.
Dinner was naturally quiet. Hawks focused on his meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and peas for the time being. Kaida and the twins were a bit put off. It wasn't unusual for dinner to be spent in silence, but Hawks was almost too uncomfortably quiet. Finally the silence was broken by Kino, "I....uh...didn't know they had this type of chicken nearby." He stated nervously laughing right after his statement. "What? The seasoned type?" Nari gave her brother a deadpanned unimpressed side glare.
"No. The good type." Kino shot back.
"CFC (Centucky Fried Chicken) was good chicken," Nari grumbled, annoyed.
Hawks cleared his throat, "Umm.... I was wondering if....you two could give Kaida and I time to talk?" Nari and Kino looked at each other and then at Kaida -who had an almost nervous expression on her face- before leaving the room, shutting the door behind them.
Kaida faced Hawks with the same confused look, "What was that about?" She asked, suspicious of what the pro hero had to say. Hawks cleared his throat once again, "I uh...wanted to know.....how you are doing. You know, new place....new foster parent, new school. What's up with you?" In Hawks' head he was following the correct steps toward the best relationship with his foster daughter.
"I'm...good. The school is nice. I'm able to live and breathe in this apartment. The foster parent is....okay." Kaida could see Hawks die inside with every syllable she uttered. Hawks laughed -clearly irritated-, " Uh.... Huh....Well, I noticed that you didn't really say any details about any of it." Kaida narrowed her eyes at him.
