Chapter 2

Kai's POV

4 : 5 0 P M

My shift at the blacksmith shop ended, and I had an appointment at 8. But I was still working on a small something for my sister. It was her birthday next week, and I wanted this gift to be special.

I had measured out the size of her rings, and was now bending the metal, letting it cool before bending it. I had been working on this for a while, and it was looking good.

Hopefully she'll like it.

"Hiya, handsome!" I turn to see Skylor grinning at me from the doorway. Smiling, I hold my arms out and she hugs me silently, "Haven't seen you all day." she mumbled. I sighed softly as I play with her hair, "Me too. I missed you."

"My dad made the Anacondrai Warriors hunt me down and bring me back to his building. He wants me to follow him around so I can learn the ropes. Bold of him to assume I even want to continue the business."

"I mean...you'd make an amazing President, you could turn the place around, give everyone a fair chance..."

"Yeah...I hate the side businesses he has me in."

"You're his daughter, can't you just tell him you want out?"

"He won't listen. If Mom was still alive I'd have a better chance of getting out of it but...she's not."

Skylor's mother died a few years back. That's when Chen also got her into the business. "Wanna spend the next few hours with me? I gotta go at 8, but until then..."

She smiled, "I'd like that."

Jay's POV

I'd snuck out of the studio, and into the Anacondrai Building, snagging a suit so I could blend in. Next stop: the diner.

It's in view now, and I head in. I see my girlfriend working at the till, and I clear my throat.

"Welcome, can I help you?"

"Yes, I'd like to take a certain Nya Smith out tonight?" Blinking, she looks up, her face stretching into an adorable grin once I take the mask off. "Wanna go to the shooting range?"

"Yes!"

We walk hand-in-hand, down to the shooting range where Nya payed for the entry fees. She walked ahead, and I quickly pulled out the same amount of money from my wallet, slipping it into her pocket when she wasn't looking.

The two of us pick up a gun and put the safety goggles on, heading to the targets. Shooting simultaneously, we both ended up scoring bullseye.

The door swings open and Seliel flounces in, followed by Cole, Lloyd and Morro. Zane and Pixal arrive later, then Skylor and then finally Kai.

"Fancy seeing you lot here!" Cole grinned, picking up a gun. Kai rolled his eyes, "Skylor told me to meet in here."

"Only because Seliel stopped by to tell me."

"Only because Lloyd and Morro told me."

"Only because Cole suggested we all hang out."

"We tracked you guys down here." Pixal admitted, flushing lightly, "Apologies."

"It's fine. Well, since we're all here, what should we do?" My twin asked, twirling the gun between her fingers.

"Honestly...I don't know." Kai mumbled, "Should we just...shoot guns in silence?"

"I'd like that." Lloyd said as he reached over and took Nya's safety goggles off, placing them on his face.
