Corbyn slowly opened the door to his apartment that he shared with Daniel.
"Corbyn? Is that you?" Daniel called out.
"Yea, it's me," Corbyn responded back as he took off his shoes and put them next to the door.
"What's wrong?" Daniel asked his lover who looked conflicted as he walked into the living room where Daniel was.
"We should um talk," Corbyn stuttered as he sat down beside Daniel.
Daniel frowned and nodded. He turned off the tv and sat up as he placed his bowl of cereal onto the coffee table.
"Is everything alright?" Daniel asked as he placed his hand on Corbyn's thigh.
"No," Corbyn sniffled.
"Corbyn whats wrong?" Daniel said as he became worried.
"I'm still in love with him Dani," Corbyn sobbed as Daniel's eyes fogged up with tears. Deep down he knew he didn't have Corbyn's heart. Since the beginning he knew. He just prayed and wished it would change. He's loved Corbyn for three years now. But he knew Jonah was the one for Corbyn.
"I'm so sorry Daniel," Corbyn sobbed out.
"Hey, hey, don't worry about me. You can't help who you love. Deep down, I think we both knew he was the one for you. I think the minute you went over, you would come back as his. You've always been his Corbyn. He's always had your heart." Daniel said as his voice cracked at the end.
"Go get him Corbyn. Don't let him slip away this time. You guys have something special. You guys have what we all want. Don't let it go to waste. He's yours and your his." Daniel said as he wiped away Corbyn's tears as his own fell down his cheeks.
"But what about-" Corbyn was interrupted by Daniel.
"Don't worry about me. He's your happy ending. I'll find mine one day." Daniel sadly smiled as Corbyn this time, wiped away Daniel's tears.
"You've always been and always will be happier with Jonah," Daniel sadly admitted as Corbyn stood up.
"Thank you for understanding Daniel. Thank you for everything," Corbyn said as he got ready to go back to Jonah.
"Always," Daniel softy smiled.
And with that, Corbyn left the apartment and made his way to the person who has always had his heart.
"Goodbye," Daniel softly whispered into the air as Corbyn left. Tears running down his cheeks. But he knew this was for the best. Even if Corbyn decided not to go back to Jonah, Jonah always would have Corbyn's heart. It was something Daniel had accepted. That didn't mean it hurt less, it hurt more. It hurt knowing he would never have the heart of his lovers. That he was just a rebound. A person to hold the place until Jonah came back. And Daniel was okay with it. Because he could at least pretend that Corbyn was his. That's all he ever wanted. Corbyn to be his, even if it was just an act.
Daniel let go because he knew Corbyn's happiness was more important. Even if that meant Daniel would he left with nothing but a broken heart.
