Dal ended up convincing me to step out of the house to have some fun. We ended up running from the same store we had stolen the night he told me to be his. But the store owner had called the cops, so we had no other choice but to run. When we climbed over a fence to hide, I had to told him we needed to break up. So I did and he didn't seem happy. When I told him the news, his smile went away and he seemed a bit...hurt. I was expecting him to fight back, but he just let it be and said Buck needed his help. Maybe I am too blind to see that Dallas is not the type to love a girl. But it didn't matter because Johnny wasn't going to be mad at me anymore.
I went home to a drunk Two on the couch.
"Angy?"
"Two, you're drunk and y'know aunty ain't gonna be happy 'bout that."
He swatted a hand in the air, ignoring my warning.
"Where'd you go?"
I sat on the couch across from his and sighed.
"Dallas and I just decided to go out. Had to break up wit'im."
He giggled.
"I never liked the idea of you two. You two were like the beauty'n the beast," he said laughing.
"Very funny, Two, but you're not helping me feel any better."
He coughed out a few more giggles before putting on a serious face.
"Sorry...So why'd you break up wit'the beast?"
"Johnny got mad at the idea of us going out, so I did what any good friend would do and break the one thing that had us going at it."
TwoBit stood quiet.
"Maybe Johnny's just trying to look out for ya, y'know. Ya'll been best friends since little kids."
I hummed in agreement. I was a bit angry at Johnny, but Two was right. He's just looking after me.
After a week of having Two trying to convince me to talk to Johnny, I finally did. We went to the drive-ins like we always do when we need a lift.
"I'm really sorry, Angel. I just let the anger get to me."
I looked over to Johnny. He wasn't looking at me. Instead he had his eyes on the popcorn on his lap.
"It's okay Johnny. I think I would've reacted the same if you were dating a hood chick."
He smiled a bit.
"Angel, I gotta be honest and tell y'that I like y'too."
I wish Two didn't rat him out, but he did. When Two told me 'bout Johnny liking me,' I didn't know how to react. I mean, Johnny was sweet, and broken, I just wanted to be there for him like a good sister would. I don't think going out would be a good idea. We've been friends since we were little kids, and a relationship can ruin that. And I don't want to loose him. But I don't want to hurt him either.
"Johnny, I love you, but not in that way."
Gosh I feel awful.
"I don't wanna ruin our friendship. What we have is special. I hope you understand Johnny."
Johnny lightly smiled.
"Of course I do. As long as we never get mad at each other again."
I chuckled.
"Tell me 'bout it. It was so strange not talkin to you at night."
He chuckled along.
The rest of the night, we spent the time laughing at our cheesy jokes and watching the stupid movie. Johnny deserves to have a smile on his face and I'm glad I'm the reason why he does so.
The next day, Two and I decided to go to the Curtis's house to have some of Darry's famous chocolate cake and beer. Everyone was there, even Dallas. It was weird being there and having to be stared at. But I ignored the awkwardness and shook it off with the meal I had in front of me. Chocolate cake and a beer can never do you wrong.
After eating, I decided to help out Darry with the dishes. Everyone had left to watch Mickey, and I couldn't help but laugh when I heard Two stumble to the ground.
"I can't be late! Mickey's gonna be on soon, turn the damn tv on!"
I was laughing so hard, I didn't notice Dally standing next to me. I gave him a side glance, waiting for what he had to say.
"I, uh, don't like where we left off."
Frowning, I smiled confusedly.
"I don't think it's f-fair for you to call it off."
I stopped the water from running and placed the dish I was washing down onto the sink.
"And why's that, Dal?"
He stopped to think and eyed the room to avoid my stare.
"You know why, Angy."
I smirked. I wasn't going to let him off the hook without hearing him say it.
"No, I don't know. Maybe you can remind me."
He sighed nervously and ran a hand down his face.
"Alright damn it, because I like y'alright?"
I hummed in satisfaction.
I win you sly bastard.
"You like me like a friend or-"
He placed his lips on mine before I even got to finish my sentence. Didn't expect that, but I'm not complaining.
"I would like you to be my girl-friend."
Laughing, he placed his lips on mine again and embraced me with his strong arms, bringing me closer to his chest.
"Dallas you slick bastard that's my cousin!"
