It's midnight and I'm sitting in the living room in a t-shirt belonging to Cole, trying to figure out what I should do. Then I hear the familiar sound of his Camaro and I bolt out the door. He barely makes it out of the car before I get to him.
"Where did you go? What did you-"
Before I can finish he's kissing me. It wasn't a short kiss either, it was a kiss that lasted an eternity. I don't mind that my legs are getting cold, I don't want him to let go of me.
When I finally break the kiss he takes off his jacket and puts it around me.
"Let's go inside..." he says, pressing his lips to my forehead. He puts his arm around me and we walk back into the house.
"Don't worry, I didn't hurt Rick..."
"I wasn't worried about Rick, I was worried about your dumb ass..."
I'm not okay with him going after Rick. But whatever Cole did, he deserves.
Smiling, he picks me up off my feet and carries me back to the bedroom.
"Don't ever do that again."
I grab his hands, his knuckles are red and he had changed his shirt.
"What happened. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but I can't say the same goes for Rick. No one will ever do anything like that to you while I'm around."
His friends did something like that and he watched them do it.
He picks up my hand and takes something shiny out of his pocket.
Why does he have to ruin everything?
"This is my promise to you, I will make this love last forever. Even if you grow tired of me and want someone new, I will never stop loving you."
A promise ring. We've literally been talking for less than 24 hours! What am I getting into?
I hug him, trying not to think. He sighs and kisses me and I let him. He smiles.
"Kiss me like you mean it," he whispers, quoting what I had said earlier. And so that's exactly what I did.
"You know, you look so damn good in my clothes, better than me actually."
I take the shirt off again.
"There. Now you can stop complaining."
After we were done making out for the fourth time today, I sit up in the bed, inspecting the ring on my finger. Thinking Cole went to sleep, I went down to get a glass of water. After a sip or two, I notice the TV was left on. I walk over to turn it off when I heard someone start to speak.
"Well, I don't think Cole would approve of me seeing you like that..."
Startled, I drop the glass, shattering it. One hand had gone over my mouth and the other over my heart instinctively.
"Jesus Christ, Mitch! You almost gave me a heart attack," I whisper angirly, trying to catch my breath.
"Sorry babe, didn't know you'd be so excited to see me."
I pick up the remote to the television and chuck it at him.
"What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here half naked in Cole's Getaway house?"
I flip him off and he laughs as Cole comes downstairs. He grabs two beers from the fridge and sits down next to Mitch.
"His mom kicked him out," he explains, popping the tab on his can. Mitch shakes his head and starts mumbling. I pick up the broken glass as Mitch tells his story.
"I swear! She's fucking crazy. Got mad because I didn't approve of her new partner. Even if I did, I wouldn't want to hear them doing it in the shower, I mean, damn. I don't even know why she likes that asshole Richard anyway. Especially after he proposed to her while looking like road kill."
I freeze up, unable to speak. Cole almost spits out his beer.
"Richard Green?" we ask at the same time.
"Yeah, why? You know him?"
I stop cleaning and walk into the kitchen to lean against the counter.
"It's her dad, you dumbfuck."
"You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine..." I answer. I'm usually not the drinking type, but this is an exception. I pull out a bottle of vodka, debating whether I should grab a glass or not. I go with not. I settle down between the two boys and pop the cork. Mitch pats my head.
"Looks like we're family now."
"Yeah, Cheers."
I gulp down more than half of the bottle in less than half an hour.
Looks like the surprises are never ending...
