Zoey Carson was a simple girl with a complicated life. No parents, just her grandpa, not even her grandma.

Her parents passed away in a car crash, they were trying to get back home. But a drunk driver ruined it all for Zoey's parents and Zoey. She moved away from her best friend, Clay Jensen. Not far, but they weren't neighbors anymore.

She couldn't go to his window at night anymore, she couldn't unexpectedly show up at his house like she normally would have. It all hurts the girl, and even after that, everything changed after the death of Hannah Baker, but not only that. The death of Bryce Walker.

Flashback

"Mom, I'm heading to Clays" Zoey said while she walked into the kitchen "you don't want breakfast?" Her dad asked "I hate breakfast food" she said and her mother eyed her "okay, I don't hate it-i just need to do my Saturday morning scare" she said and walked out of the house.

Lisa shook her head at her daughter "she's a prankster, just like me" frank smiled "you were never a prankster" Lisa talked down her husband "you wouldn't know, we didn't start dating until junior year" he said "so by junior year you stop pranking everyone?" Lisa asked and frank scoffed "sure" he said

Zoey ran across to her best friends house, opening the door

"Hey early bird" Lainie spoke "hey" she smiled "wants some breakfast?" Lainie asked "no, I'll past, thanks though, is clay awake yet?" Zoey asked "still sleeping" Matt said while walking into the kitchen "ok, I'll be upstairs, if you hear a scream, just know that the prank went well this time" she said while walking up the stairs

She entered her best friends room quietly and got on her knees, quietly crawling over to his face

She took her hand and ran her nude pink acrylic nails over his cheek softly making it slightly wake him up

She pulled her hand down quickly and ducked down lower

She saw as his eyes opened slowly, his bright blue eyes now showing

She held in her laugh as she got ready to jump scare the boy

"Hey clay!" She nearly yelled making the boy jump harshly "what the shit, Zoey!" Clay said making the girl stand up and laugh "you have to stop doing that" clay said while sitting up

He grabbed his phone and looked at the time making him sigh and Zoey sat next to the boy on his bed

"Do you really have to scare me at nine in the morning, why this early?" Clay complained "you need to be up anyway" she said "on a Saturday?" He questioned "sure, now let's go eat some breakfast" she said "I thought you hated breakfast food.." clay said "well I guess not" she said and patted his knee she stood up holding her hand out

"Come on" she said with a smile clay sighed while lazily putting his hand in hers and she pulled him up

End of flashback

Zoey eyes shot open as she heard her grandpa's call for her

"Yes?" She yelled back and he soon entered her room as she laid in her bed "you're gonna be late if you don't start gettin ready now, isn't clay coming to get you?" He asked "no, pa, I ride my bike" she said "what happened to clay?" He asked and she sighed "he's been busy" she lied and he nodded

Clay was busy, but that wasn't the fact, it was that clay had changed. He also spent more time with his girlfriend, Ani.

That made Zoey think she had no place to stand, she felt like Clay didn't need her anymore.
