KAGEYAMA's POV

A week has passed since we knew about Kumi's secret. The more we get worried and anxious day by day just thinking about how she's doing at the moment. If only she would've allow us to visit her frequently, I'd even stay with her throughout.

But like what she said: "I'll be fine. Focus on winning the Spring Interhigh, then you can worry about me after that." She said that with a radiant smile.

It doesn't matter what she says, that still didn't stop us from visiting her more often.

I've been having my breakfast, lunchbreak, and dinner at the hospital with her then would return back to the gym after, seeing as it is the only reason she can consider.

I need to spend as much time as I can with her.

"Are you all ready for tomorrow?"

I snapped out from my thoughts as Kumi spoke. It was 8 in the morning and all of us were in the hospital to see her before we start practicing for the last time.

"Yeah." Daichi said sternly. "More than ready."

"That's good to hear," she chuckled. "I'm looking forward to seeing you on TV tomorrow then."

"Can't you excuse yourself for awhile out of the hospital and watch the game?" Hinata asked innocently.

"Boke! That's not allowed! Boke!" I growled at his stupidity.

"Actually it is," Sugawara commented as we turned to look at him.

Kumi nodded and added. "It's actually allowed as long as I'll still be attached to a dextrose, but considering my state, I'm still kinda too weak to move around."

Hinata's eyes widened with hope. "THEN COME WATCH US—"

"Hinata quiet down!" Sugawara scolded.

"Gomen, Shoyo," Kumi said nervously. "Like I said, I'm still too weak."

"Are you sure you'll be fine here alone?" Yachi asked. "I'd be happy to keep you company."

"You should watch them during matches, Yacchan. You'll be handling those boys next year, so it's better to get to know more about managing with Kiyoko-san still with you."

Yachi's face then gloomed as she replied, and soon I realized how our faces was painted with sorrow after what she said.

Then Yachi replied, stammering unsurely. "But we'll manage the team together next year, r-right Kumi?"

We all turn to look at the brown-haired girl. Yachi's question caught her by suprise as she widen her eyes and parted her lips.

Then she supressed a weak smile.

"Of course Yacchan!"

The other upperclassmen turned to look at each other doubtingly, forcing a smile. I only sat silent the whole hour, listening to their conversations while occasionally barking at Hinata for being so annoying.

"Make it to the nationals, Karasuno." She said as Daichi laid his hand out in the center, then Sugawara placed his ontop of the Captain, followed Tanaka and Noya, until everyone had theirs hands ontop of each other's.

"YOSH!" Noya yelled enthusiastically.

"You have practice in the 20 minutes, you better hurry up now." Kumi spoke up, "Oh, and one request, boys, like what I always want; focus on the tournament, so I'm expecting less visits, okay? Starting tonight."

"Gahh," Tanaka groaned, "If it'll make you feel better then alright, we'll do as you wish."

Takeda-sensei said a few encouraging words that gave motivation running up our spines, then Daichi lets out our usual roar.

"KARASUNO!"

"FIGHT!"

THIRD PERSON POV

When 10 am came, everyone decided to finally head to the gym and start their final practice. It was hard for Kumi to convince the black-haired setter to leave her, but he followed reluctantly otherwise.

It was a painful sight for Kageyama, leaving Kumi suffering alone in her 'deathbed' — as what Tsukishima bluntly described — while they enjoy their lives playing their favorite sport.

He still wasn't prepared for the worst possible outcome, and it was making him anxious.

"What if by the time we close the door, next thing we know, she's already left us? What if an hour later? Tonight? Tomorrow?" Those were the questions haunting him.

But he knew better than to just stay worried. She's stronger than that, she'll live. He thought and promised himself to give his best during the Spring Interhigh and make her proud.

——

"The game's tomorrow," Kumi mumbled, looking out the window. "By now, Kei and I have finished baking..."

It has been a thing for the two to bake the night before one another's match, and Kumi had no other choice but to only talk to the moon about how she wanna bake shortcakes with her bestfriend for the last time.

*knock knock*

She turned to the door, wondering who could it be as she muttered a 'come in'. The door slowly opened, revealing a tall figure who Kumi couldn't really see due to the darkness of the room.

But judging from the footsteps, she already know who the person is.

"Shouldn't you be resting?" She said, shielding her eyes from the binding light as it was turned on.

"I won't stay long," Tsukishima muttered and pulled a small table beside her bed and took a chair. He then laid out a box wrapped with a white cloth and took out two forks.

The blonde unwrapped the cloth and opened the box, revealing his favorite food — strawberry shortcake.

Kumi's hazel-brown eyes widened in surprise and happiness at the small, presented food laid out infront of her.

"You made this? Alone?" She asked, taking a fork.

Tsukishima nodded and took a slice as he waited for Kumi to take a bite first, but the brunette only stared at it, frowning. "You're not eating it?" He asked.

Kumi turned to look at him, sadness written all over her face. "I wish I could bake with you one last time," she muttered.

"You couldn't now, now eat it atleast for the last time."

——

"One more!"

Kageyama nodded sternly, tossing the ball towards Hinata with a falling toss as he flawlessly spiked it.

It was already night. Hinata, Kageyama, Yachi, Daichi, Sugawara, and Tanaka were the only ones left inisde while the others have decided to rest early for tomorrow's game.

"Hey! Wrap it up already!" Daichi shouted. "You're gonna feel this tomorrow!"

"What? Already?" Hinata said. "But I felt like I haven't hit enough yet."

Daichi sighed, "For crying out loud—"

"That feeling that you haven't hit enough, why don't you save that for tomorrow?" Yachi beamed at the two.

There was silence for a few seconds.

"Right!" Hinata and Kageyama nodded.

"Kageyama, let's race to see who can pick up the most balls!"

"Bring it on!"

"Nice, Yachi-san!" Sugwara gave a thumbs up.

"All right! Let's take down the net!"

——

"We're here. Back at the Sendai Municipal Gym again!"

"We'll make it to the nationals!"
