Jane's POV
"Damn it! He fucking guilty, I know he is, so what the hell am I missing" I thought out loud.
"Language Jane" Maura scolded. I glared at my wife, I'm exhausted. I have been up for 48 hrs with this double homicide. A woman and her daughter were found in the vacation home both with a bullet wound to the head. The husband has a shaky alibi and has motive. But I can't find the missing piece to the puzzle. And it's absolutely driving me insane.
"Hey Jane sweetie, why don't we just call it a day. You're tired and stressed." She says a rubbing my leg to get my attention.
"Maur. I just really need to catch this guys. He is guilty. My guts tells me he is."
"I know Jane, but you can't keep working like this. You have been here for last two days living off of coffee and vending machine snacks. I need you to go home, shower, eat a PROPER MEAL, and get a good night rest. Do I need to remind you of the importance of eating and sleeping Jane?"
"Mau-raaa" I whine but she is not having it. I know she is right. I really do need sleep and god do I miss my bed and sleeping with my wife and food! I could really go for a nice burger and a beer right now I wonder if she would be okay if we just go the Dirty Robber  tonight.
"Jane!" She makes me jump. "Yea Maur?"  I look at her with confusion written all over my face. She lets out a small chuckle. "Are you even listening  to me right now?" She asked "um yea yea I was totally listening  to you" I lied and she knows it. "Okay then tell me the last thing I just said." She challenges me. "Okay your right I wasn't listen but I was thinking your right I'm tired and very hungry. So I was thinking maybe we can head out and grab something to eat at Robber? And before you say anything yes I will eat something green. I thinking a burger with fries and a side salad. Please please please Maur." I beg.
"Well since you asked so nicely and your willing to actually leave the station and eat I guess we can head to the Dirty Robber."
"Yes!! Let's go" I celebrate this small victory and my wife just smiles at me.
I grab me jacket and let Korsak and Frost know that Im leaving early and working the rest of the day at home and I'll see them tomorrow. They tell me to get some rest and they are planning on call it a early day as well. Walking out of the squad room after saying goodbye to boys I see my beautiful wife patiently work for me at the elevator. I look at her and she just bring a smile to my face. How did I get so lucky to have the most wonderful and beautiful woman as my wife. I think to myself I know I probably look like at idiot with a goofy grin on my face but I can't help it Maura just makes me feel all kinds of happy and I love her with all of my being. PING! The elevator has signaled its arrival and we hop on. I glance at the time on my watch and I see that it's only 12:55.
"Hey Maur I was thinking since it's still nice out and it's still pretty early we could walk over to the Robber"
"Honestly I was just think the same thing." I just smile at her as we leave the precinct and head to our destination. As we walk we just talk about things that has been going on in the last couple days since we really haven't seen much of either due to work. I know it's crazy we are married and live together but sometimes when we get hard cases like the one we have now we just don't see much of each other and it's sucks. We continue to catch up as approach the last turn to head to the Robber, we were so caught up into the conversation we were having that we didn't see the scared girl running to us at a fast pace until it was too late.
BAM! she crashes right into me slightly knocking the wind out of me. We both fall down. Maur was quick to react to help us both back to our feet me first and then the little girl but as soon as Maur reaches her hand out to help her up she freaks out."No no please I so sorry please don't hit me I didn't mean too!" She shaking and sobbing and me and Maur share a concerned look. It wasn't til I squatted down to her level that I saw the bruises and cut the littered her pretty face.
"Hey sweetie, hey hey no ones gonna hurt. Hi my name Jane. I'm a police officer and this is my wife Maura. Can you tell your name sweetie?" The pet name just kinda slipped out but seeing how scared this little one is I can't help it. Someone was hurting this poor girl and I know that I just had to help her. I raise my hand slightly to push the hair from her face but she flinches violently and tries to scoot away.
"Okay okay I won't touch. I was just trying to see your pretty face. Hey sweetie my wife here is a doctor and I see you got a pretty bad cut on your face do you think we can get that cleaned up. I promise we won't hurt you sweetie." I wait for her response but none came. Then I remember she probably scared and doesn't believe me so I reach on my hip and pull off my badge and slowly reach it out to hand to her making sure not to scare her. Surprisingly she doesn't flinch. She looks at me then my badge and she goes to grab but then get scared and stop.
"It's okay you can grab it and hold on to it" I tell her. She grabs it and hold on to it tightly. Finally after a few moment she reaches out to grab my hand. I quickly pick her up and sit her on my hip. Shocked by the fact she lets me pick her up. I shared a quick glance at my wife who has been quiet this whole exchange and see nothing but concern and love in her eyes. At this point we both know that eating will just have to wait til later. We both turn around and head back to station so we can help out this little sweetie. As we walk back the little girl on my hip lays her head down on my shoulder and in the softest sweetest voice I hear. "My name is Laney."
