Maura's POV

Laney fell asleep again shortly after agreeing to give us a try. Poor thing is so tired both physically and emotionally. I couldn't be more happy that she is willing to give us a chance. I know we have a long road ahead to get her to trust us, but Jane and I will do anything in our power to give Laney what she needs.
"Hey Maur?" Jane's says grabbing my attention.
"Yes Jane?"
"I know this is going to sound like a dumb question but what do we do now?" She starts rubbing the scars on the palms of her hands as a telltale sign that she is also nervous about the situation.

"Well Jane seeing as Laney is sleeping. I think it's in our best interest to analyze and discuss what we want to do next. I for one would really like to take her to see Arizona. It worries me how small she is even for her age, she shows physical sign of abuse and malnutrition.

"Ok so maybe you should give Ari a call and see when she is available. I have a feeling that this little bug is not gonna like the idea but I agree the first thing we need to do is make sure her health needs are being take care of then, we take it one step at a time."

"I agree, one step at a time seems to be the best solution." I grab my phone and step out of my office to make the much needed phone to my dearest friend. After two ring Arizona answers her phone.

A: "Hey Dorthea, how's it going?"
Her usually bubbly personality always make me smile and the fact that she insists on calling me by my middle name as she always had since medical school.
M: "Hello Arizona. I'm well, how are you doing?"
She response with a similar answer to mine. We spend a few minutes catching up and I ask her how Calliope and Meredith are doing. Calliope is her wife and Meredith is their little.
A: "OMG Dorth things are wonderful Mere is doing so well and she is the happiest little girl I could ask her. You and Jane will have to come visit soon."
I can hear so much pride and joy in her voice as hear her talking about her wife and their little girl. I'm so happy for her and Callie they have been through some tough times.
M: "Funny that you mention a visit, are you free today, maybe we can stop by your office I need a consultation? Well not me, but a friend of mine.
I try to explain without worrying her.
A: Is everything okay? Obviously I failed at that as I hear the worry evident in her voice.
M: Oh don't worry everything is fine. I have a friend her name is Laney and she is in need of a check up. She is a little. She show obvious signs of trauma and abuse. You're one of my dearest friends and I trust you the most with this. She is very scared of everyone but I know you have dealt with similar things with Meredith. So I was hoping you could help us out?" I was rather nervous about this as she can tell by my rambling.
A: Okay. I would be glad to help. Actually I can do a check up today around 4. My last surgery is scheduled for 2pm it's a simple Appendectomy should be rather easy bearing no complications I should be done by 3:30.
M: "Oh that's wonderful. Thank you so much.
After making the agreement we talked for a few more minutes before she had to get back to work. We say a quick good byes and I head to my office.

Meanwhile in Maura's Office
Laney's POV

I woke up by a gentle hand rubbing my back. It was warm and comforting and kinda put me in my headspace although I was rather confused because Mama never wakes me up like that. She was always so rough and loud. Then I remembered that I wasn't with Mama anymore. I'm with Maura and Jane. I really like them, they are always nice me. They make me feel safe. I hope it stays that way.
