Her eyes narrowed, scanning the whole court in a matter of seconds. It was as if all the players were on a coordinate plane and she was the person picking a point to put down.
She could feel the thrill of winning when her hand connected with the ball, as the blockers' eyes widen, as the other side scrambled to recieve the ball in vain, as the audience's cheers rang in her ears.
"The vixen of the court is back at it again! Carrying her team to the Nationals!"
Yes, it was the satisfaction of the game. It was the feeling Kimiko Udai lived for.
But instead of meeting the proud gazes that she had expected, she met envious, hateful ones of her teammates. She thought they were her friends, but they were just another pack of wolves waiting for the right moment to lunge.
She was the lone wolf of the pack.
She meant nothing to them, even if they meant everything to her. That's just not how the world worked. Not all feelings are reciprocated, the world is just cruel that way.
She was completely alone in the court, and she always had been.
