Kimiko Udai lightly tapped her pencil on her desk, deep in thought. She knew that her ability to quickly access any scenario was one of the biggest advantages she possessed in volleyball. She could probably put that skill to use, but the question was how? Closing her eyes, she thought back to the practice match with Aoba Johsai.
There was an instance during the match where Kageyama had to receive the ball and was unable to set, which wasted the opportunity for a spike. 'I could try to practice setting from midair for cases such as that.' She could definitely react fast enough to set in that situation, but the problem was with setting itself. Her setting skills were probably as good as that of any basic player. 'Gosh, I sound so egoistic', she mentally cringed.
Time skip - after practice ~~~
"Thump."
"Thump", a volleyball rolled on the ground towards Kimiko.
Kimiko let out a soft sigh as she continued watching Kageyama and Hinata practice an upgraded version of a quick attack. This time, Hinata was keeping his eyes open instead of closing them like he normally does. Unfortunately, the ginger wasn't able to hit a single ball since practice ended.
She ended up watching the duo to study Kageyama's sets. 'It's like he can pin point set to an exact location', she leaned against her knees and kept observing. Her eyes memorized every movement his hands or feet made in an attempt to figure out what she was doing wrong.
Of course, Kimiko could never match his skills as a setter, he was a genius when it came to setting. That didn't mean it wasn't useful to learn setting though and it definitely didn't mean that Kimiko was going to give up on setting. Even though she was a wing spiker, being skilled in all positions would prove to be beneficial for the team. While she was deep in thought, Kimiko didn't notice a blond manager's eyes on her.
Yachi observed Kimiko while simultaneously tossing the ball to Kageyama. The way Kimiko's eyes were able to track everything sent chills through her spine. It reminded her of a hawk, no, more like a fox, studying its prey and calculating how it would catch it's next meal.
Yachi respected Kimiko's concentration; the way she was able to analyze and process information was something Yachi admired.
She hoped Kimiko was able to grab the information that she needed from watching Hinata and Kageyama practice. It was getting dark and eventually the 4 packed up.
"Bye Kimiko, Hinata, Kageyama", Yachi bowed before walking out the gym, leaving the other 3 together. "I guess I'll head home too", Kimiko yawned, picking up her bag.
"Wait!", Kageyama called out before she could leave. "I'll walk with you, it's dangerous to be alone at night", he blushed staring down at his feet.
"Yeah!", Hinata chimed in.
Kimiko was a bit taken aback but agreed. Their houses were close anyways. They stopped by Hinata's house first, leaving Kimiko alone with Kageyama.
"Kageyama, I'm a bit surprised you offered to walk me home. I thought you hated me", Kimiko spoke suddenly.
"W-what? Of course I don't", Kageyama responded flabbergasted. Where did that come from?
"Oh, I'm glad. I always thought you a Tsukishima had it out for me from the beginning", she chuckled. "Well, if you don't hate me, are we friends then?", she peered up at him awaiting his response.
Before he could answer, Kimiko stopped in front of a house. "This is my stop, I'll see you tomorrow then. Get home safe Tobio-kun!" She waved to him before walking away, leaving a flustered Kageyama outside her house.
'You idiot', Kageyama thought, still blushing from when Kimiko used his first name.
...
After taking a shower, Kimiko laid on her bed, tossing a volleyball up and down in her hands. It soon progressed to her tossing the ball against the wall, aiming for a different spot to hit each time.
This was a rather challenging task; the right amount of force and aim had to be used to get the ball to bounce back into her hands. As a result, almost half the time was just Kimiko getting out of bed to grab the ball from the floor.
After a few hours, she decided to go to sleep since she had to wake up early tomorrow morning anyways. Karasuno was going to Tokyo for a practice match with Nekoma High.
Just as she pulled her blanket over herself, music erupted from her phone. Picking up the phone she glanced at the caller ID and nearly dropped her phone.
Hesitantly she answered, "Mom?"
