"Yes father", Kimiko stated monotonously, her voice cracking as she proceeded to hang up the phone.
She felt a filial duty towards her parents, yet it was still hard to stomach the thought of going to a party to get engaged. 'It's not like anyone will ever want to get married to me anyways', she thought bitterly, trying to convince herself it wasn't that bad. Despite her efforts, a cloud of sadness still loomed over her."For godsake just suck it up Kimiko!", she screamed angrily at herself. You've been through worse, why are you getting so fucking emotional. How much more would she have to do to earn their approval? She did everything they asked of her, but they never seemed satisfied with her. Kimiko knew she was a pawn to her step-father, another pawn in his game of chess. He wanted to expand his empire and she was the perfect sacrifice.
She knew from the moment he leered darkly at her as she walked hand in hand with her mother to meet him.
However, getting a fiancé wasn't the thing that was causing her so much agony, it was who she would be getting engaged to. She was torn over where her loyalty laid, with her father or her former teammate. While she wasn't the kindest to Kimiko, Kimiko still held a degree of respect for her ex- senior.
The boy whom she would be engaged to was one of the factors that caused the immense amount of distrust between her and her previous team. He decided to boldly pursue her even while he was busy entangling in the sheets with another, who just so happened to be a third year on Kimiko's former team.
Of course, it's not like anyone would believe her when she told the truth. Everyone just wanted an excuse to pinpoint their distaste for her, so why pass up a good chance. Their jealous glares and hateful sneers only got worse from there on. It was easy to tell that every smile, every "nice serve", every high five was to conceal their true thoughts.
She didn't mind, that's how its always been.
She had always been an unwanted little thing.
All she ever wanted was approval from her parents, from her team - not that she could ever get it.
At least she had Tenma.
She suppressed a sob, curling up into a ball atop her bed for until she managed to calm the waves of despair crashing down. Her heart felt like it was tearing apart, her mind in shambles as she tried to figure out what to do.
Deciding that she needed some fresh air, she let out a large exhale, letting her blanket pool on the bed next to her as she stood up. After putting on some sneakers, she grabbed her scarf and wrapped it around her neck. '11pm, not like anyone would care if I got kidnapped anyways', she thought, bringing nothing but a coat and phone as she walked out the door, into the elevator, and out the hotel.
