Amanda

Unknown to Jenny I hadn't fallen asleep the time she got in and the look in her eyes gave me a ray of hope for the both of us.

Deciding to go wake her up, I left the dining table which I had set up and ascended the stairs. Without knocking I swung the door open and closed my nose in disgust. The whole room smelt of dirty grass and there she was sleeping comfortably.

I could have stayed there and watch my pretty girl but the smell was greater. I tapped her a little on her lap, no response. I tapped again and her eyes opened slowly.

"Wake up honey, freshen up and come down dinner is ready" I whispered to her.

"How long have I been asleep?" she asked sitting up on the bed.

"Two hours" I replied her question.

"Okay, thanks" she said the last word looking me in the eyes and trudged into the bathroom.

Her last word and the look in her eyes lightened my inside and made me have a lot of thoughts but the next thing I heard broke it.

"Mom, leave" she stretched the last word, "I wanna have a bath and close the door behind you" she said with hatred in her eyes.

Walking down the stairs, I thought of today's  happening I had gone to the place I rented immediately Jenny left for school and filled it with some furniture and equipments. I was not ready to tell her yet but I will. I had met Mr Andrew and embarrassed myself three times in front of him.

I sat on the dining table and waited for Jenny all the way strangely thinking about Mr Andrew. I had called him Mr Andrew but he argued against it and we settled on Andrew.

The clanging of plate with fork and churning of food broke my chain of thoughts.

"What were you thinking about?" she questioned while putting a spoonful into her mouth.

"N..Nothing" I said picking my fork and started eating. A weird silence prevailed in the room and it was getting me choked.

"How was your first day at the school" I said breaking the horrible silence. She just nodded her head and continued on her food.

"Why did you come back looking like that?" I started again in a hope of a conversation.

"Nothing to worry about" she said.

"It is, I mean it is something I have to worry about" I stated my position.

"Mom" she shouted.

"Jenny" I shouted back which caused silence to prevail for a short while showing that she still respected the fact that I was her mother.

"I got into a fight and was told to clear the field" she said more like whispered and left the table.

After she had left I cleared the dishes and went to my own room. Laying on my bed, I closed my eyes and prayed for tomorrow.

Waking up I walked into the bathroom with heavy steps and did my morning routine.

After leaving the bathroom I dressed up in casual clothes and I decided to drop Jenny at her school. She did not have a car and also cabs are hard to find in this area.

Stepping down the stairs I found Jenny already dressed up and eating the leftover lasagna.

"You're up early" I said to her.

"Yeah, I thought you might want to drop me off at my school" she said looking down probably thinking that she hates asking favour from me.

"Sure" I smiled and joined her on the table, surprisingly the table was already set. I smiled a little cause I knew she did it just to persuade me to take her.
