Max Arnold was waiting by my locker once again for the third time this week.

for the last month, he had attached himself to that spot even after several pleas for him not to do so.

I had even asked fletcher to say something, anything to get him to leave me alone and yet no dice. he still kept coming back.

today max leaned on his phone, fingers moving fast until I showed up next to him spinning my lock to get to my books.

"ba-"

"Please don't call me that," I said cutting him off just as I had for the past three days.

baby, the word made my skin crawl when it left his lips. it didn't make my heart race as he must have loved to believe, seeing as it worked on all the other girls here. it just made me uncomfortable.

I was counting the seconds until fletcher showed up.

"anyways angel me and the guys are having a party at my place I wanted you there." he smiled, blue eyes flashing with want.

Max Arnold was a mystery to me. it had only been this year that he had been persistently asking me out after our family's had had a dinner party together.

everyone in this small town knew each other, our parents were old school friends and I had known him since I was in diapers, the number of dinner parties we had been at together was almost impossible to count. why now he had suddenly felt that he needed to bug me at every turn was confusing to me on many levels.

Max Arnold and I didn't run in the same groups at school. for one he was popular and slept around with every girl in the school. fletcher said this was probably why he was doing it, I was most likely a challenge considering all his other options were taken. I could see this as the main reason he did this now.

I on the other hand was not popular, far from it. fletcher was my only friend and with all things considered I liked it to stay that way. I wasn't looking for a relationship nor was I looking for a Max Arnold in my bed.

so when he had blatantly asked if we could have sex in the bathroom of my parent's house I refused and he had shown up by my locker with an apology and an invitation to his next party.

I hated Max Arnold more and more every day.

but then my saving grace showed his face as he slammed his body into the lockers on the opposite side of Max Arnold.

fletcher was and would always be my best friend. his long curly blonde hair and green eyes that he shared with all the boys in his family were kind as he picked up my books from my hands.

"so rose are you free tonight?" he asked and Max Arnold almost growled in response.

"no actually shes got plans with me," he said gritting his teeth.

Max Arnold and fletcher had a past I knew this, I had witnessed first hand the way max had slammed the locker door on fletchers fingers and how easy his knee had found itself in fletcher face breaking his nose.

Max Arnold didn't seem to care that I knew this. didn't care that this added to the reasons why I didn't want to be near him.

"no, I'm free." I smile already happy to have an excuse to say no to max, he never took no for an answer unless I had a real reason not to be there. spending time with fletcher didn't count as a real reason but if I was away from my house it would work.

Max Arnold has my parents wrapped around his little finger. he had shown up at my doorstep saying I was invited to dinner and they had fallen all over him saying I would be right down. there was no dinner he had taken me to a party that I called fletcher to pick me up from the second I was alone.
