CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

It was a slow day in the bodega today. She had several tutorial session some time in the afternoon with Ruby being the first one some time past three. But until then she was going to be stuck here handling the cash register. Every now and then she would stock up the shelves but nothing interesting really happens here.

Nina spoke too soon when a bunch of Prophet$ came in. There were just three of them. The look that they gave her sent chills down her spine. She recognized one of them however, Marcus. Leader of the Prophet$ ever since her sister's rapist got locked up.

It wasn't the first time Prophet$ would walk in to the store. The only threat that they gave her was a simple stare down but that's it. They didn't even pester her being the girlfriend of the leader of their rival gang. But they did scare the crap of her every time they were here. Then again, they couldn't know that.

Not long after they proceeded to the check out and Nina began scanning their items. "$78.25," she said putting their items in plastic bags. One of them handed her a hundred and she swiftly counted the bills for his change.

The Prophet took back his money before staring at Nina who continues to avoid eye contact. "Hey," he said making Nina look to him slowly.

"You're that tutor right?" he asked as Nina simply nodded. "Yea, you used to teach my little niece, Tina."

Nina smiled a little remembering Tina. She had a really hard time with Math, when they both started. But now she would get a little excited knowing Nina would come over to teach.

"Now she won't shut up about Math being fun," he joked making Nina muster a chuckle. "She's top of her class because of you," he added making Nina snap her head towards him in amazement.

The Prophet took one good look at her and notice how good looking she actually was. As he began to look her up and down, Nina felt her heart begin to quicken.

"You're good, teach," he smirked still eyeing her. "Which only makes me wonder why you went for a punk ass like Spooky," he added laughing before taking his bags and leaving. His two other Prophet friends followed suit.

Oscar would bring her to some of the houses where she had her tutorial sessions. However, in some cases, Nina would just walk. He would freak out if he knew that she continued to teach some students in Prophet territory. Although when she did, she stayed out of the hotspots where most of the gang members were.

On a sad note, ever since she was known as Spooky's girlfriend she had been going less and less into their territory. It was for her sake and safety. Plus if Oscar found out he would go crazy.

After the Prophet$ left, things went by a little faster and it was time for her to head over to Ruby's house. She bade farewell to Berto and Angelica who were both stocking up in the aisles.

She texted Oscar to see how he was doing, turns out he was still chilling in the Santos trap house as the rest of the Santos were still making drops and runs. Although he insisted that he stay in the house just in case something went wrong.

Not long after she gets to Ruby's house only to be greeted by Jamal at the door. "Hi Nina!" he smiled.

"Hey," she smiled back before entering the Martinez house while Jamal looked at her slightly confused.

"You invited Nina?" Jamal turned to Ruby.

"Great you're here!" Ruby said rising from the couch. "Why wouldn't I invite Nina? she's the one who went to MIT."

"For a year, what exactly do you need help with?" She asked setting her stuff down on one of the living room chairs.

"You and I are gonna design and program a new app," Ruby said confidently handing her some business card. "Oh and Jamal is here for support," he added making Jamal feel offended.
