"Dr. Ruth! Am I seeing things?"
Ashley smiled at these words. Today was her first day at this hospital. She was on her way to ward rounds today. She could tell her colleagues were much happy about her return. Being an attending physician here was quite good actually.
"Nope, it's totally me!" Ashley smiled back.
"I have read your journal. It was incredible!" Sharon exclaimed.
She was a surgery resident here. The last time Ashley saw her, she was an intern. For some strange reason, this girl liked her very much.
"Thank you, Sharon. I didn't know that you were still here!"
"I applied for surgery residency, and they accepted. Dr. Martin said to take the exam for attending physician after residency. Now that you are here, I guess I will take it more seriously. "
"I can use a familiar face around, Sharon! You have to do good in the exam!" Ashley patted her shoulder.
"I am so excited to work under you, Dr. Ruth." Sharon was practically jumping ups and downs.
"With you." Ashley corrected her.
After finishing the regular round, Ashley sat down in her office. She would be starting routined surgeries within few days. And for special surgeries, she'd be working with senior doctors for more experience.
She smiled bitterly, although she was not less experienced than others, her age made her look a lot inexperienced than she actually was.
AANS, WINS, or WFNS awards even could not get her that leverage that she deserved in terms of performing her individual surgery.
She emptied her belongings on her desk.
She started to organize her room, trying to customize it as much as she could so that it radiates "Dr. Ruth" in first looks. She put some books on the shelf, spare glasses, a water bottle in the cabinet, three little paintings on the wall, and two wooden sculptures on the shelves. Few framed photos of her and Maya's on her desk.
She placed some succulents nearby her windowsill and shelves.
She quickly marked important dates on her desk calendar. Though she could manage her schedules through her phone, but she liked it old fashioned way.
She organized her desk quickly. She took a look at her scrapbook before shoving it into a drawer.
She went through the book, reminiscing her journey. She stopped at the last page, a polaroid of her with Taehyung at the breakfast cafe was clipped there.
A lump formed in her throat, there was a dull pain aching slowly deep inside her. She missed him. And the thoughts of missing him made her miss him even more.
She tried hard these days to console herself saying that he was a normal friend just like others.
She spent only two to three days with him, texts or calls were maybe for a week or so. She didn't know him that well.Yeah, maybe they both shared the same interests, they had a lot in common, and they liked each other's companies. He had something, a depth in him which she always looked for in others.
But she really didn't know him that well apart from their shared interests. He was in that sense, a stranger at the end of the day.
But why did it hurt so much? Why she was feeling guilty?
She stared at the photo for some moments and decided not to get rid of the photo at last.
Forcing for trying to forget will remind him more. Better try to take this normally.
She took the pen and scribbled down below the picture-
"Wanted, but couldn't."
"Tae, come here. The break is over."
Taehyung took a glance at his phone for one last time. He was readig his and Ashley's texts again.
He quickly wrote down another text,
"How was your day?" and sent it before going back for practicing. He was doing ok,
Really ok.Apart from a busy schedule, crazy times with an incredible family, and everything around, he didn't have enough times to think otherwise.
But the somberness sometimes engulfed him. He still didn't understand why this happened. And he missed her within the little times he got for himself.
Not every time, but often.
He tried to tell himself that he barely had any chance to encounter any female apart from the music world, Ashley perhaps was the one with a vibrant presence among them.
That's just it. She was a great friend, but it should end there.
But he ended up thinking about her. And surprisingly, he didn't resent her or had any anger, he just wished they would meet again, have a chat like before in a small cafe, This time he would take time to know her, let her know him, share a few snippets of their worlds.
He wished they had more time.
Taehyung went towards the members. They just finished learning a new choreography, it was time for practice.
Jimin back hugged him, "awww Taehyungah, you look tired. Need more time?"
Taehyung relaxed in his hug, resting his head on his shoulder.
"No...Jin hyung didn't have rest, and he even started before us," he replied.
"I feel bad for him. But I am proud of him you know," Jimin agreed with him.
Jin was the member who worked hardest among them undoubtedly, taking extra lessons, practicing nonstop to keep up with everybody else, and taking care of his youngers like family.
Sometimes Taehyung felt guilty for being good at dancing. Why it had to come to him or others naturally where Jin or Namjoon had to try till they couldn't anymore?
Why these precious people had to suffer more? It made him sad, but at the same time proud of his hyungs.
"Jiminiah, show me the bridge one more time. I am confused," Taehyung told Jimin eyeing Hoseok through the corner of his eyes.
Hoseok was the sunniest personality around, maybe the one to whom anyone can go for comfort or wise advice. But in the dance studio, he was like the scariest person ever. No, he wasn't scary or anything, but members always felt standing on the edges near him, God knows when he would go off!
Jimin released him and showed him his moves one more time. Seeing his graceful movements, Taehyung thought, there was no way he could be as good as him, ever.
"Stop glancing and come practice with me." Jimin chuckled like a little boy, he liked it when Taehyung looked at him with admiration.
"Yeah, coming."
Taehyung took his position, getting rid of every thought processing in his head for time being. It was easier this way.
