Shallow End

right beside the edge of the water is where i lay,
with my eyes closed and trying to find the time of day.

when i can get back up and swim with everyone else,
when i can have some of my ice cream before it drips and melts.

until that day here i lie,
resting in the same spot that i may die.

a space alone and to myself,
some place i can't become as painfully heartfelt.

you may see me smile you may see me laugh,
or you may catch me with my head split in half,
remembering the happier moments before the tears,
thinking of the warm moments that destroy my fears.

the water runs past my head and to my feet,
caressing each hair until i get up and meet,
you somewhere in the deep end,
somewhere i can amend,
the hurtful things that plague my mind,
sending them far away through time,
a distance that can no longer hurt me,
some place where i'll be completely free.

at the edge of the water is where i wait,
hopefully you won't be too late.
