It's been a week since I last spoke to Sophia. I also avoided Daniel and his girlfriend. Melvin and I are becoming really close.
"Earth to Juanita! What are you thinking about again? You have been daydreaming this passed week" Kharo said.
I smiled at her.
"Ogenekharo leave me abeg" I laugh
"Heysh!! Don't shout the name like that nau. I don't want people to start calling me that, they might not pronounce it well" she whisper-yells.
"Okay, okay fine, Kharo baby" I wink
"Wetin dey do this one?" She sneered
(What's wrong with you?)
"It's not bad to be happy, is it?" I ask
"Okay, you're being too cheerful and it's alarming. Tell me the truth or else.."
"Okay fine. I think I like someone" I giggle.
"Who? Mr Emeka?"
Mr Emeka is our obsessed English teacher whose clothes look like they'll explode any minute.
"What? Eww No!"
I laugh louder, just then, Sophia and Daniel walk in. I quickly draw my eyes away from them.
But they walk towards me with determination
"Juanita we need to talk!" Sophia hits my desk.
"Oh! We do, do we?" I ask all cockiness gone now, still not looking at her or Daniel.
"Juanita are you mad at us?" Daniel asks.
Question!
So now he realizes I'm mad at them.
"Juanita--"
"Juanita nothing Daniel! how will you know if I'm mad at you or not? You've been too stuck up in your girlfriend's ass to notice right?" I glare at him, stand up from my seat and walk out of class. It was a free period anyway.
"Anita! Wait" Kharo called from behind me as she runs behind me
"What" my voice became weak.
"Don't you think you are overreacting?" She asks, concern written all over her face.
"Overrea....Kharo!" I shook my head in disappointment and continued walking. She followed me and we walked into an empty class.
"I know you're mad at them, but at least give them a chance to explain themselves."
Not too long after she said that, the door opened and they both walked in.
"Juanita I'm sorry. Please don't be mad at Sophia, It's not her fault."
"You're right, but the fact that you guys kept a secret from me hurts me!"
"We're sorry. I thought Daniel would tell you" Sophia whines.
"Juanita please, I'm sorry" Daniel Pleads.
"My whole life...you guys know every single thing about me. Even if I didn't want to tell you guys some things, I still do. Why? Because I trust you guys. You know my darkest secrets that even my own mother doesn't know, so you keeping secrets from me just makes me feel so stupid for telling you anything in the first place" I tell them
You might call it overreacting, but I am hurt.
"I thought...I thought.."
"Thought what Daniel? What?"
"I didn't know how to tell you."
"You didn't or you thought I would....you know what, it's fine. Let's just forget about it" I sigh.
"Are you sure? You're no longer angry?" Sophia asks and I shake my head, no.
"I'm not. I'm sorry for getting that mad at you Sophie. It wasn't your fault"
"I missed you Juanita" she hugs me and Daniel joins in.
After we break the hug, I keep smiling while replying Melvin's texts on WhatsApp as everyone talks about something. I wasn't really paying attention.
