Brenda's POV

The moment my eyes land on his face, they go wide.
I try to look away, but I can't, it's just as if he had me hostage.

As if he feels me staring, he turns to face me questioningly, but I very quickly turn my head away from his, making sure my scarf  does a good job in hiding my face

What in heaven's name is he doing here?!
And why here of all places?
Oh no! This is bad! This is terrible

Why the hell is he here for Christsake!!!

I couldn't even focus on the competition anymore, the announcer begun announcing the arrival of the batch I had been waiting for for like forever. Juanita's batch.

Why the hell didn't they come since when I was comfortable??

I need to get out of here, but I don't wanna miss Juanita's competition!

Trying not to focus on his presence.

Wait...what if he sees Juanita?

My heart begins to pump in my ears.

Crap! Crap! Crap!

Calm down Brenda, he won't know! He doesn't even know it's you! He probably doesn't even know you both had a child. Tell me, what are the chances of bumping into your ex fiance who you left in England in a high school event here in Nigeria?

Juanita's POV

My heart keeps hammering in my chest, for a strange reason.
My mind is a whirlwind of emotions. I could barely hear the whistle, indicating us to start.

I dived in too late, but I managed to still finish second with a difference of 1.5 second

Shit! My coach will be mad.

I shamefully walked back to the bench, before Cassandra and the other swimmers were called.

What did I just do there?

Will my heart just stop beating erratically for once?!

"Juanita! What was that?" My coach whisper-yells.

"I'm so sorry coach" I sigh sadly.

"You're our teams best swimmer . I thought you'll beat them hands down, I didn't expect that" She complains, while I just keep apologizing.

Before I know it, I hear the crowd jubilating and celebrating. I look up to see Cassandra beaming proudly.

Oh! Looks like she won.

"It's your turn again Juanita Don't think about anything negative. Think positive things only. This last round depends on you" my coach tells me.

I swallow hard before walking towards the pool, Cassandra sending me a smug look.
I won't blame her. She won her round after all.

"On your marks!"

"You are being useless! I didn't birth a failure Juanita!"

No. Positive thoughts only.

"Set!"

"A failure!"

The whistle is blown. I didn't hesitate in diving into the water this time. I managed to shut my brain off all negative thoughts could hear the cheers from all over.

Suddenly, my most dreaded experience hits me

"Come here darling" he said gruff tone.

No!
