The following morning at breakfast I couldn't eat because my step father kept looking at me with a mischievous smile .
" Honey are you ok?" My mother asked and I looked at her " yea mom I am fine. Why do you ask ?" She looked at me keenly and said " you just don't look like yourself ". I chuckled nervously and said " I am fine mom .I guess I am just a little nervous about going to school today I mean I won the competition yesterday , I have no doubt that they are going to have alot to say hopefully good things".
At school that day Jennifer noticed how silent I was and asked" what's up with you ? You haven't spoken a word since morning ". I smiled at her and asked " have ever been put in a difficult position to choose ?" She frowned at me and said " that depends on what you are referring to . Is something wrong at home is it those bratty step sisters of yours ?" I laughed a little " no . nevermind it's fine ".
At home that evening my step dad alone was there along with me and as I walked passed him in the kitchen I said " I am going to go stay at Jennifer this evening until mom comes home ". He looked at me coldly and replied
" No you are not going . Now listen here remember your mom's happyness do you really want to destroy that for her ?" I looked at him and said " my mom would understand and I am not staying here and I am going to tell her everything .I am only 15 years old Steven and you can be charged for what you did". He grabbed my arm and said threateningly " if you so much as breathe a word to anyone I am going to see to it that your mom dies and i promise you that I mean every word". He then released me and I ran upstairs to my room and close the door.
I then decided that no matter what happened to me I was going to protect my mom with everything in my power after all she had done so much for me so as the tears rolled down my cheeks I knew that this was a small price to pay to save her life and I looked up as my room door opened and Steven entered , he was going to pay when his time came .
