I was riding my horse, Midnight (who's black coat color is true to her name), and just got home.

Where I see an old friend........

"Gandalf!" I shout as I dismount Mid and go over to the old wizard.

He turns around, sees me, and smiles. He hadn't changed a bit. Gray hat, robes, and beard and hair. But, despite the ever grayness of his attire, he is a great friend and usually very cheery.

"Thea!" he says. "Dear Thea!"

I embrace him for a moment and pulled away.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

"Actually, I'm here to see you." he responds.

"Me? Really?"

"Yes."

"Why, may I ask?"

"I was wandering if you would want to join an adventure?"

"Truly?"

"Yes."

"What kind of adventure?"

"An adventure to reclaim Erebor to the rightful King, Thorin Oakenshield. And to vanquish Smaug."

"Well, I'd be glad to be of service, Gandalf. But, I don't know if Father would-"

"I have spoken to Lord Elrond and he has agreed to let you go if you so wish."

"Well, then I accept your offer."

"Great!" Gandalf smiles once again. "I'll be back in the morning to fetch you."

"Very well, Gandalf."

"Thank you, Thea."

"My pleasure."

After Gandalf leaves, I go to see my Father. I find him at the table, waiting for me before he dines.

"Thank you, Father." I say as I sit beside him.

"For what, my daughter?"

"For allowing me to join Gandalf on his quest."

"You are welcome. However, are you sure you want to go?"

"Yes, as a favor for an old friend. Also, it's been years since I've been on an adventure."

"I know, dear, but Gandalf told me that you are the only woman in the Company."

"Yes, and?"

"Well, they might be rude to you."

"Father, I expect that they will underestimate me. But, when haven't I been? And how many times have I surprised those who doubted me?"

'True..."

"Don't worry, Father. I'll be fine. It's my enemies who should worry about me."
