When I finally decided to get myself out of bed, I groaned. My entire body was sore, every move I made was a reminder of the boxes I move around the day before. You'd think that with all the training and dancing I did I would be immune. Unfortunately, not. Was it actually possible to be immune to muscle soreness? Probably not, but one could always hope right?

I was finally settled in and decided to spend some time walking around the neighborhood, hopefully, that would help relax my muscles a little.

I spent an hour just wandering around, looking at the simple houses and buildings before heading to the nearby convenience store. I was on my way home when an illuminated sign caught my attention "DANCE". It was just around the corner from where my apartment was. I took it as a sign. I'm not superstitious in the sense that I don't think black cats are unlucky or these kinds of things, but I'm not opposed to seeing signs when they work in my favor. What? Don't pretend you've never done that.

The bell hanging around the door chimed when I entered. Inside, the walls were stripped with colorful wavy lines. It nearly gave the feeling that the walls were moving along with the music coming from the different studios where classes were taking place.

I took a brochure and looked at the different offers they had. They had classes for all genres and all ages, but what attracted me the most was the possibility to rent a studio for a few hours. This would be perfect to stretch and go over some moves and my solo during this tryout period. Not to mention that if I made it into training camp, I would need all the time I could get to perfect the different routines they would through our way. Rumors were that we would be given a new choreography and sometimes two in a single night. Crazy!

"Hey there dear, can I help you with anything?" I heard someone say. I looked up from the brochure to see an older woman, she must have been in her seventies. Her bright blue eyes were warm and stood up against her neatly tied ballerina bun.

"I'm actually thinking of renting a studio for the next two months. I'm trying out for the Beacon's cheerleaders and could use a place to practice," I explained.

"Oh, the Beacons what a great team!" she said dreamily. "One of our smaller studios is free for the next few months so you can just use that one," she said gesturing to the one on the left. We walked to the window to look inside. The studio was a decent size despite her mentioning it being small, mirror-lined the walls and stereos adorned the corners.

"This is perfect!" I voiced my thoughts. The sight of my new training space had me excited. I couldn't wait to start dancing. "I won't be able to pay you immediately, but maybe we can work out some payment plan?" I asked hopeful, God knows I didn't have much left in my account anymore since I was cut off from my family.

"Try it out for free today, then we can talk about the payment details," I nodded excitedly.

"Thank you so much, Ms. –" I trailed off realizing we hadn't exchanged names yet.

"Ms. Lennon, but you can just call me Sylvia." She reminded me of my babushka, she was the sweetest woman, always trying to fatten me up. She had been my personal cheerleader, always encouraging me to pursue my dream and never stop doing what I loved. I was heartbroken when she passed a few years back. I wish she had been here to watch me try out, I hoped she would have been proud of me.

"I'm Kathanya." I offered, introducing myself.

"Now go change, I'm sure you're dying to start dancing," she said reading my mind. I rushed back home to get my equipment and a change of clothes before making my way back. A few minutes later I was standing in the studio facing my reflections.

I spent the next hour working on improvising, jumps, and kicks. Time always flew when I danced, it was like I was consumed by the music and letting it carry me through space and time. The experience was like none other.
