I don't even know why I felt guilty. I mean Kyle and I weren't an item and more importantly for as long as we both worked for the Beacon there was no way we would ever become one. The other night was fun, but that's all it was. Yeah right.
Some would argue that if we kept it within the building then there was no reason for anyone to find out. Probably true, but that wasn't the type of relationship I was looking for. I didn't want to hide all the time, always worrying about getting caught. I'm not saying it wouldn't be exciting at the beginning, I'm just saying it would get tiring fast. I wanted to be able to go out on dates, present him to my family and friends. Maybe even post some pictures on social media if I wanted to. All of this wouldn't be possible.
If I wanted to somehow move on and have even an ounce of a chance of keeping my cheering job, then I needed to start putting myself out there again. Coffee with Peter was the first step in that direction.
But even with that in mind, I felt uneasy that Kyle had seen and probably even heard what we said since my desk wasn't that far away. Enough! You don't even know if he was at your desk, maybe he was just passing by and you're making a big deal out of nothing.
The rest of the day went by and soon enough I saw Peter exit the elevator and coming towards me.
"Hey! Are you ready to go? Otherwise, I'll wait," he generously offered with a charming smile.
"No, no, it's actually perfect timing. I just wrapped up my last email," I responded. I was ready to get out of here and go to a more friendly place. "I know a place that sells the best coffee in the city," I declared. If he didn't know Coffee Addict, then he was about to get the shock of a lifetime. Okay, I'm exaggerating... but just a little.
"Sounds perfect. Lead the way then," he answered, gesturing with his arm to the elevator. I finished packing everything I needed and walked past him towards the exit.
The next few hours went by smoothly. Well, almost. We didn't go unnoticed by the owners when we entered the shop. Marketa and Alisson had given me both questioning looks and damn he's hot gestures each time Peter wasn't looking. It was both hilarious and nerve-wracking.
We didn't stay too long since the girls and I had practice in the evening, but it was long enough for me to know that Peter was an interesting guy. He was easy to talk to, funny, considerate and had tones to say about everything. For a minute I even stopped thinking about my sexy neighbor which was exactly what I needed and wanted.
Just before leaving, he asked for my number which I happily gave. He said he would text, and I was glad to hear that, although knowing how busy I was with everything I wasn't going to be the kind of girl to wait by the phone.
"Who was that?!" Marketa asked excitedly once we were driving towards the stadium for practice.
"Peter, he's in the accounting department of J&Co," I offered but knowing them they wouldn't stop at this.
"Uhm and why were the both of you having a date in Coffee Addict?" Alisson continued prying, clearly as curious about this as her best friend.
"He bumped into me earlier and wanted to make it up to me with a coffee. And just for the record," I added lifting my finger up and pointing towards both "this wasn't a date. It was just coffee," I argued.
"Yeah that's how it starts and soon enough there'll be a proposal, marriage, a house, and kids running around screaming mommy," Marketa joked.
"Omg too soon way too soon," I chuckled horrified by the image. It wasn't that I didn't want a husband or kids. I was simply way too young for it now and I had literally just met Peter today. I wasn't ready or willing to start imagining my entire life with him. If anyone, the few images that popped into my head were of Kyle and me.
