"I'm so sorry," I apologized once Kyle arrived home. From the look on his face, I could tell his meeting with the Beacon's head coach didn't go well. I just hoped it wasn't as drastic as me. "How bad is it?" I asked as we moved to sit on the couch.
My hand reached out to his, and he gave it a squeeze reassuring me that we were okay despite the consequences of last night.
"Mr. Kingston cut my field time in half for the next game," he sighed. "I'll take it, I know it could have been much worse. The only reason it wasn't was because he had arrived at the same time I had so he understood why I did what I did. The violence part was what he was reprimanding me for. Drake, the assistant coach was fired this morning, Mr. Kingston doesn't condemn this kind of behavior," he finished with a smile.
I wish there were more people like him in the industry, I thought to myself.
"I know," I answered making him look at me with perplexed eyes. "He called right after you stepped out of the apartment. I swear the timing was so weird I looked around for spy cams," I chuckled.
"What did he say?" Kyle questioned.
"He wanted me not to speak of yesterday's event and in exchange, he would pay me twenty grand," I started. "Well, at least that was the basis for our negotiations. I don't need the money, that isn't what's important to me and I made sure he understood. I told him that I wanted to report him to the police and that I didn't want him to get a job where he could harm any women again." I explained to Kyle.
"That seems rather difficult to do," Kyle commented.
"Yeah, that's what Mr. Kingston said as well. He said that as far as he was concerned, he would not be giving him any positive references but that was as far as he could go. He accepted that I report him to the police and offered ten grand to keep the media out of it and as an apology as well. He said that money couldn't solve this kind of problem but that it was the only thing he could do to try and remedy to their recruitment shortfall," I continued. "He seemed sincere when he said that, and to be fair I hadn't even planned on dragging this story through the tabloids and all."
"Do you want me to come with you?" he offered, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, and pulling me to him. I snuggled closer, taking comfort in the heat his body radiated.
"No that's okay, I'll head there tonight when you have practice," I replied. "Thank though."
"Don't you have practice as well? I know your coach is as hard on you girls as ours is on us," he said with a laugh.
My body tensed when he mentioned dancing. With all that had happened last night, I hadn't even had time to tell Kyle about Coach's decision to kick me off the team. Last night after the perv assaulted me I had nearly forgotten about it and this morning Kyle had left early.
Sensing the change in my body he pulled away slightly to look at me.
"What's wrong?" he asked, concern ached on his face.
"Coach got her hands on a picture from the both of us laughing that day we went to the beach with your family," I explained as I sat up, leaning my elbows on my knees and running my hands through my hair. "She called me into the office last night after practice to tell me my contract had been revoked due to the breach in our agreement, that's why I was there so late." I tried to keep a composed front by my shaking voice gave my frustration and sadness away.
Kyle didn't hesitate to pull me into a hug. "I'm so sorry," he repeated as he squeezed me tighter against him.
Between yesterday and this morning, I didn't know how my body still had tears to shed but as he apologized tears strolled down my cheeks. It was hard to accept that it was all over.
