“Okay, I need some fresh air.” Deb said opening, the door.
They were, god knows where, with big, heavy rocks on both the side of the road, and what looked like gazillions of year’s old, broken fence. The sun was setting deeper in the sky, turning the whole place shocking orange in color.
“What is it?” Owen asked getting out too.
“What did you do Liam?” Lillian asked crossing her hand.
“Nothing, come on, not everything is my fault Lillian” Liam said turning back. “Are Tris and Owen seriously going to sleep throughout the trip?”
“Give them a break, Tris is really tired and Ben is just…”
“Weird?” Liam suggested.
“No, Ben is just different, good different.” Lillian completed.
Owen knocked at the window and Lillian scrolled it down.
“Liam, dude, did you tell my sister your mother is Laura William?” Owen asked taking his sunglasses off.
“I did, is that why she is so upset?” Liam asked.
“She is not upset; she is on the seventh sky for being able to meet the only son of her dream celebrity.” Owen answered shrugging. “And Lillian, we definitely should climb the rocks and see the awesome view.”
“Oh but Owen, we are on really tight sch__” Lillian started impatiently but was cut by Owen opening her door and practically dragging her out with him.
“Fine, fine” Lillian said resigning.
Liam too jumped out of the car and went towards the old fence, where Deb was kind of talking to herself.
“Hey!” Liam said startling Deb.
“Hey! Sorry I freaked out, it’s just that I love you mother’s work and she is like my favorite scientist of all time, in fact she taught me that matriarchy can begin the moment all of us women want it to. I know I am babbling, but you need to understand that her theory of dark matters is like breathtaking for me. I should just shut up__”
“Deb, it’s okay, I would have promised you her autograph, but she barely is home to sign her own child’s report card, so signing a photo for child’s friend, is a really long shot.” Liam said, cutting her off and smiling bashfully.
“Well, that’s that.” Deb replied sighing and smiling at him matter-of-fact-ly.
“But, she is coming home for the weekend after this. So if you want, you can meet her. God knows, we both won’t be doing anything other than glaring awkwardly at each other. You would act as a distraction from our boring, non-happy life” Liam said raising his eyebrow.
“Okay” Deb squealed.
“Yeah?” Liam replied smiling at her high pitched voice.
“Yeah, but don’t expect me to like you or treat you differently because of your brilliant mother.” Deb deadpanned
“Believe me, I won’t expect, want or like, you changing your attitude towards me because of my mother.” Liam said hand quoting ‘the mother.’
“You really hate your mother, don’t you?” Deb asked studying his fierce expression.
“No, no, I don’t hate her, I just……there were too many obstacles between us that her love for me started getting lost along the path. I don’t hate her; I just don’t love her anymore.” Liam said gazing at a long distance then snapping back his attention.
“You guys coming?” Tris shouted as she started climbing the rocks alongside the road, following Lillian and Owen in front of her and with Ben at her back.
“I thought you were asleep, Baby girl” Deb shouted back.
“Won’t miss any scenery for thousand sleeping hours, miss perfecto” Tris laughed turning back to her rock.
“Well let’s just go, shall we” Liam questioned Deb, giving her his hand which she took after a moments of hesitation, sending Liam back to his thought of her changing because of his mom. He shook these thoughts off, assuring himself that she was just getting to know him and was starting to like him.
Together they all climbed the rocks and smiled at each other drastic attempt of overtaking each other.
