“Tris, are you blushing?” Lillian heard Deb speak, she was sitting on the passenger seat, while Liam was driving the car.
“No” Tris answered closing her phone quickly.
“Who is it?” Deb asked, elbowing her
“No one” Tris answered again
“Is it TJ?”
“Yes, okay, fine. It’s TJ, he is just teasing me.” Tris answered rolling her eyes and gave Lillian an apologetic smile. They kept on talking for 5 more minutes, when they felt the car come to halt in front of a big house, more like palace, the house Lillian had seen only once before. She felt her stomach twist at the sight of it. Owen felt her hand tightened around his own. The first thought that came in her mind was how come Liam still has this house? Then she remembered Tris mentioning their NY cottage.
Sighing heavily she got out of the car and immediately felt Owen next to her. She took his hand again and felt her heart dropping. Ben and Deb were already walking forward, looking around in awe. Tris looked back and smiled at Lillian and Owen, gesturing them to move faster.
She went to the gate and tapped on the window of the security guard who jerked out of his sleep and annoyingly scanned the crowd ahead of him. His eyes came to halt at Tris and he stumbled out of the small room saluting her.
“Ms. White, welcome home.” He said in official home but Tris scoffed him off.
“It’s Tris, Luke. You haven’t changed at all. Is Liam here?”
“Yes, she came two days ago. It’s lovely to have both of you back here. Miranda would go crazy.” Luke smiled, looking genuinely happy to see them. He bowed to others and opened the door to let them enter.
They walked on the narrow pathway with lawns on both the sides and Deb moved faster to move along with Tris.
“You never told me you were rich!” she said
“You are rich too. What’s the big deal?” Tris asked
“No, she is ‘my love’ rich, but you are ‘my queen’ rich” Liam said joining in. Deb glanced around carefully analyzing the boundary wall which were low enough for jumping in and out.
Tris let out a laugh and shook her head, moving on. Lillian and Owen followed them quietly and Lillian kept their hand clasped the whole time. She closed her eyes and avoided making any sound. Ben followed them taking in the security cams tracking their every step. Weird, he thought before walking on.
They waited patiently as Tris rang the doorbell and the door was opened by a woman in her mid 50s. She scanned Tris and let out a high pitched squeal, repeating it’s true in her sharp voice. She hugged Tris hard and then bowed to others.
“Good to see you, Miranda.” Tris said, letting out a polite laugh. Lillian looked around the house and saw a big tap door at the end which, she was sure, opened in the backyard, near the wall.
“It’s for husky.” The lady, Miranda said as she noticed Lillian looking at it.
“HUSKY’S HERE??” Tris shouted rushing forward and clapping her hands together, repeatedly shouting here boy to call her pet.
“Hello, I am Owen and she is Lillian. They are Deb, Liam, Ben.” Owen said pointing at everyone but Miranda’s eyes did not move away from Lillian. Without any warning, she hugged her hard and sobbed. Lillian kept standing awkwardly with her hands at the side of her body.
“You took care of Tris in our weakest time, how can I ever thank you?” Miranda asked
“It’s okay, Mrs…” Lillian started
