We walked onto a wooden dock where a bunch of boys were swimming.

"Hey Spot heard you've moved up in the world.", Jack called out.

"I'll be right back." ,I whispered to Jack as I tried to tuck a loose strand of hair back into my hat. I didn't even bother waiting for an answer as I ran into an empty alleyway. When I got there I quickly took off my cap and put my hair into a bun, but right before I put my cap back on I felt two pair of eyes staring at me... It was Boots.

"YOUR A G----", He started to say but I put my hand over his mouth.

"Yeah, I'm a girl but, if you want to ever talk again you have to promise me you won't tell a single soul. Understand.", I said in a loud whisper.

He vigorously shook his head yes as I let go of his mouth.

"You know you really look like friend I use to have his name was-", Boots said

"Derek yeah I know.", I spat back a little meaner than I meant to. "He was my brother."

"Okay you promise you won't tell anyone, not even Jack.", I said concerned.

"No one, I promise. But wow, I can't believe your Derek's sister.", Boots said shocked.

I rolled my eyes. "Good now lets go back to the dock.", I said with a smirk as I put my cap back on. We walked out onto the docks again.

"Say Jackie Boy I've heard thing from little birdies. They've been chirping in my ear.", said a boy with a slingshot and a pimp cane.

"Here I got some real good shooters for you Spot.", Boots said holding up his hand. As the boy with the slingshot took one and aimed for a beer bottle on a roof. He must be the Spot Conlons, the leader of the Brooklyn newsies. He shot the bottle right in the middle as it smashed into a million pieces. .

"They've been telling me your newsies have been planning to go on strike." ,Spot said His eyes were icy blue and I bet one look from him would make a grown man run away in fear.

"We're not planning, we are going on strike.", David said trying to act brave.

"Oh Yeah? yeah? What is this Jackie Boy some kind of walking mouth?", Spot questioned a little annoyed.

"Yeah, a mouth with brains and you'll listen to him if have half of one.", Jack replied. Spot then leaned back onto a wooden crate. Listening.

"Well We've been talking talking to newsies all around the city.", David stated.

"Yeah so they've told me but what did they tell you.", Spot said impatiently.

"They're waiting for what Spot Conlon's is going to do. That your the key. That Spot Conlon is the most famous and respected newsie in all of New York and probably every where else. And if Spot Conlon joins the strike then they'll join and we will be unstoppable. So you've got to join the strike because... You just got to.", David said.

"Your right Jackie Boy brains.", Spot said pointing his pimp cane towards David. "But I have brains to and not just half of one."

"Well think about it, If one company raises its price on papes the other companies will raise the prices on papes and the prices will just increase from there." I said interrupting the conversation.

"And who asked you?", Spot said glaring at me with those icy blue eyes but then thinking about what I just said..

"Like I told you brains...", Jack said looking towards me and pointing to his head.

"Fine but how do I know you punks won't run the first time some goon comes at you with a club? How do I know you've got what it takes to win?", Spot asked.

"Because I'm telling you...", Jack said dead serious.

"But that's not good enough Jackie boy I want proof.", Spot said as he turned around. His decision was already made up.

"Whatever.", I mumbled as we turned around and left. I then felt two pairs of icy blue eyes on me.

"Oh and Jackie boy ask Derek who's right next to you how he escaped from the prison, yeah?", Spot said with a smirk. His arms crossed. His cane still against the crate.

Jack stopped dead in his tracks looking at me up and down. "You do look exactly like Derek.", Jack whispered. I looked around nervously as I wiped my palms on my shirt.

"Ha, that's funny Jack, I already told you my names Carter.", I said trying to cover up me and my brothers similarities.

"Yeah Spot, this isn't Derek its our new newsie named Carter.", Jack yelled behind him so Spot could hear. We then started walking back to the Newsies Lodging Inn again.

"What ever you say Jackie boy... Whatever you say.", Spot mumbled right as we walked off the docks.
