The Dark Side

I stared at the monster. I took a deep breath. “Okay fine, have me then! But you will leave the others! They will go back to their normal lives!” My voice shook like never before but I knew it was the right thing to do. “No Matt, what the fuck are you talking about? We won’t leave you here!”, shouted Dom. “Feelings…”, growled Murph, “Disgusting. Let me just wipe those out.” He moved his big hand over us and I watched in horror as Dom’s eyes slowly became emotionless. “NO, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?”, I screamed at the robot. He just laughed again. “You won’t need him or anyone else where we’re going Matthew!” Another black chain dashed forwards and wrapped itself around my body, so I couldn’t move. “You are pretty interesting. Not even when the simulation is changed by me it affects you.”, said Murph and grabbed me with one of his claws. “Wait, what would you say when I would give emotions back to your friends? Let’s see them suffer seeing you being dragged away!” He made the same gesture with his hand like before. Even though I was high in the sky I could hear Dom screaming in pain as he saw me getting taken away. Tears ran down my face. “Dom!”, I shouted. Murph opened some sort of gate in the sky and went through, taking me with him.
We arrived in another part of the simulation. No life was anywhere. Just the purple sky and the rocks. Murph tied me to one of those rocks. “Welcome to The Dark Side Matthew.”, he said and just vanished into thin air. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t see and I couldn’t think. All I wanted was Dom. I just cried and couldn’t do anything. “Dom…”, I sobbed, “please forgive me. I am weak. You’ll be better off with Chris. He’s tall and strong, he can protect you. Not some skinny twat like me.”
“What are you talking about?”
I flinched and looked up. I stared at… myself. My younger self. I was just floating there, in front of myself. It was the me from 2003, when we freshly released our album Absolution. And when I came together with Dominic. I leaned against another rock in the air and folded my arms.

“Don’t you want to get back to Dom?”
“How? I’m trapped and I’m too weak to free myself…”
“That’s not true. And you know that.”
“What do you mean?”
“You brought me here.”
“I did that?”
“Yea, who else could’ve?”
“But… how?”
“How should I know, I’m just your subconsciousness. Are you going to do something now or not?”
“I need to get back to Dom, I want to hold Dom in my arms again!”

Suddenly my chains broke and I was free. “See? I did it!” I looked around. But my younger self was gone. Right. I didn’t need support anymore. I can do this myself! Slowly I floated down to the ground. After a few minutes something appeared what looked like a road. Will it guide me back to my friends? Well… as long as I believed, it would. The simulation listens to me. I can form it. I concentrated and next to me a car formed itself out of pixels. It looked a bit like a DeLorean from Back to the Future and it shimmered in shades of blue and purple. I opened the door and got in. My hands grabbed the steering wheel tightly. “Okay, let’s fucking do this!” I formed a pair of glowing LED sunglasses in my hand and put them on my face. Then I stepped on the gas.
