It had been an entire week since Charlotte had joined Forks' High School. She was bored out of her mind and yet she felt as though she couldn't leave. Once she had arrived home a week ago from her art class, she had recreated the sketch of the young girl. Charlotte didn't know who she was but she knew that the little girl was important. As a demon the girl had acquired a sixth sense for her subconscious being slightly precognitive, and it hadn't failed her yet, so why would it now?

Her safe that was filled with her sketches was slowly increasing since moving to the quiet town. She knew that there was a family of vampires within the area and yet there had been no missing person cases or unexplained deaths for years and Charlotte didn't understand how they were feeding. Although their eyes were not the usual blood-red a vampire possessed, their topaz colour could be a glitch in their DNA? But that would only apply if they actually related and according to Lauren and Jessica, they were all adopted; Rosalie and Jasper being 'twins.'

Charlotte followed the same path to her school she had taken for the last seven days, the ground showing her footprints from her previous journeys. Being a demon allowed Charlotte to move at impossible speeds and hear for miles but she preferred to walk at a slow, human pace - it gave her time to think and process her thoughts.

On her mind today was the in famous bronze-haired Cullen boy, whose name was still unknown by Charlotte. As she strolled at a leisurely pace, she pondered on what had driven the boy to be absent from school a whole week, which resulted in Charlotte being forced to pair up with Mike Newton and his partner; a girl named Lucy. Lucy didn't seem extremely keen on the gorgeous girl's presence, causing Charlotte to be on the receiving side of constant death glares for an entire week.

"Hey Char!" Mike Newton called the girl over, attracting her 'friend group's attention. Everyone waved at her, and gave small greetings as they usually did. Charlotte straightened her leather jacket that sat on top of her small frame. She was wearing her favourite navy blue summer dress, it had small flowers printed on it, and a pair of grey winter tights underneath her black, winter boots. "What's up, Newton," Charlotte greeted him, as she removed her headphones, placing them back into her pocket where she was certain they would become tangled up again.

She watched as the Cullen family pulled into the parking lot, the well-known silver Volvo following a large Jeep. She watched as bronze-haired boy climbed out of his car. And she watched as his eyes met hers, just two supernatural beings looking at one another. Charlotte was the first to look away from him, becoming increasingly aware of the looks she was getting from Bella. What's her problem? "So," Tyler started, addressing the group. "Who's coming to La Push this weekend?" The small group cheered and started talking about how excited they were; all except Bella and Charlotte. "Are we supposed to know what that is?" Bella spoke up for what seemed like the first time this morning. So she does talk, Charlotte thought to herself, eyebrows rising upwards when she noticed Cullen boy chuckling, so he's listening to my thoughts, weirdo. That comment wiped the smirk straight from his face, and Charlotte returned to her conversation. Eric took it upon himself to fill in the confused girls, "It's a beach on the reservation. We're gonna meet outside Mike's dad's shop - Newton's Olympic Outfitters. So, you girls in?" Bella's unsure look had Angela running to her rescue, "And there's whale-watching with me and Ben." Angela's smile was like a ray of sunshine and Charlotte found herself nodding alone with Bella, agreeing to meet this coming Saturday.

Throughout the day, Charlotte had found herself constantly thinking about the Cullens' and the young girl she had drawn. Was there a pattern? Where they connected? And when lunch rolled around, she watched as not one of the Cullens' ate food, drawing more attention to them than they seemed to realise. She had learned the names of all the Cullens' except Bronzie during a conversation the previous week. Jasper and Alice were together as were Emmett and Rosalie.
Each couple complimented the other nicely, Jasper made up for Alice's small height, and Rosalie's looks paired nicely with Emmett's giant structure. But the bronze-haired boy seemed lonely, constantly found with a brooding expression on his face.

Charlotte had caught him staring at her numerous times, and a confused, slightly frustrated expression when he was staring at Bella Swan. Did he have a thing for new chicks, or something? Charlotte had heard him mutter 'or something' yet she didn't react, not wanting to draw any unnecessary attention to herself at that moment. The demon girl had found herself not sleeping, constantly on-guard when she was alone, scared about the possible threat the vampire coven posed to her and her existence.

Throughout the week, she had realised that they had posed no threat to Charlotte and vice versa. The only Cullen Charlotte had found herself talking to was Alice Cullen. During art, Alice had approached Charlotte asking for the blue watercolour pencil she had just finished using. The smile on Alice's face was so large, Charlotte thought her face might split in half but it hadn't. Their fingers had come into contact briefly, hot touching cold, making Charlotte peer at Alice nervously, worried about Alice's reaction, yet there was no comment, almost as if she knew it was coming...

The school bell rang out, a shrill noise that hurt Charlotte's sensitive ears, resulting in the same routine of teenagers racing to exit the small lunch hall. Biology was next and Charlotte found herself, surprisingly, feeling slightly nervous to be sat next to the brooding Cullen. She wondered about his name: Andy? David? Josh? He looked a bit like a Josh... Her thoughts came to a sudden halt when she entered her classroom, the boy she was just thinking about was staring straight at her, a smile she would consider real, sat on his face.

Her head was raised as she walked over to him, the stool scrapping against the already scratched flooring. She removed her leather jacket and folded it carefully, placing it on top of her backpack on the floor. Mr. Molina introduced the class to their tasks on cell mutation. Charlotte was extremely knowledgeable when it came to Biology, it just seemed to make the most sense to her. Her pencil scribbled down her name, handwriting remaining neat, and she began to answer the questions what she already knew, which was alot...

"I'm Edward Cullen." The bronze haired boy she could now associate with a name had finally spoken. Charlotte stopped writing about cell mutation and slowly turned her head in his direction. His bright topaz eyes met her light brown ones. Charlotte's lips turned upwards as she thought of her reply, "And did I ask?..."

She turned back to her worksheet, finishing the task before anyone else had. Edward had remained staring at the girl, amused at her answer to his introduction. "And you're Charlotte James," Edward added, a small smile appearing on his face. Charlotte turned her body to face him, her face neutral as she realised he wanted to have a conversation with her. "Yeah, did you read it on my worksheet whilst you were copying my answers?" Charlotte smirked to herself, looking down at her paper as she handed it to the teacher. Edward was surprised and partly amused as he watched the girl leave the classroom, the final bell having just gone off.

Edward wasn't sure what Charlotte was. She had blood in her system and yet it smelt off to him and his family. She didn't have a heartbeat though, and this was just as confusing to him as it was to Carlisle. The time he had spent in Alaska for a week had been spent considering the possibilities of the girl's kind. Edward was able to read her mind, unlike Bella Swan's, yet it still frustrated him to no end. Charlotte's presence hadn't been threatening and his family had thought that maybe she was just 'passing by'. But little did they know, excluding Alice of course, that Charlotte James was in for the long run...
