A/N: this one kinda angst also it's mostly in the past. It's kind of a filler? It's just Pidge's past. Enjoy :3 Warning: her mom kinda homophobic, I love her mom in the show but I needed it to be a bit more interesting >:)
Katie was a very smart little girl. She had long, golden hair. She had light brown eyes and a sweet look. Katie was all alone, swinging by herself. It was 3rd grade and she was bored out of her mind. She was lonely. Until another lonely girl began to swing beside her. She looked sad.
"Hi" Katie said to the girl "What do you want?" She pouted "I want to be your friend!" She smiled at the black haired girl. She had purple eyes and was wearing dark blue jeans with a black t-shirt. On top of that, she wore a dark red jacket. "What's your name?" Katie asked "Mara" she was still looking down "I'm Katie!" The other girl looked up at her and was looking confused "Why do you wanna be my friend?" "Because you're pretty!" "I'm pretty?" "Yeah..." "Ok, i think you're pretty too!" She smiled "Thanks Mara"
And that is how Katie met her best friend.
They hung out almost every night for years and years. One night, at one of their regular sleepover, Katie confessed
"Hey Mara?" "Yeah Katie?" "I don't think I'm a girl..." "Are you a boy?" "No?" "Hm. We should look on the internet what that means"

"Non binary?" Katie asked before clicking on the link and reading to get more details. "It basically means I'm not a boy or a girl" she explained "some people use the pronouns they and them? I don't know exactly what they mean..." she read a bit longer "it means that instead of saying 'she had a long day', they say 'they had a long day' for example" "So do you want me to say they and them?" "Umm I don't know. Let's just stick with she for now" "Ok, well, I think I'm a boy" "Really?" She liked style her friend "Yeah, call me... umm I don't know. Call me Keith!" "Ok, so do I say he and him?" "Yeah" Keith smiled at his friend
It was a revelation. She thought about it for so long. Keith had come out to almost everyone. "He even started taking testosterone." Katie explained to his family. "Well that's great Katie" her mom smiled
"Hey Keith?" "Yupp" "Call me Pidge" she looked up at him "Omg Ka- Umm sorry. It's gonna take me a while." They laughed "Congrats, Pidge" they hugged tightly.
"KATIE! What did you do to your hair?" Her mom yelled "Sorry mom" she looked down
"Matt" "What's up?" "I'm non-binary" "Really? That's awesome!" "Call me Pidge!" "Sure!" Her brother hugged her tightly. She only had her parents left
"Mom, dad?" "What do you want, Katie?" He dad asked "I- I'm non binary" she looked down not wanting to see their faces. Her mom looked shocked "It's ok Katie," she looked up "It's just a phase, it'll pass" her mom smiled at her trying to be reassuring. Tears were starting to come up her eyes. She ran to the door and left, crying.
She stood in front of Keith's door and knocked. Adam answers and frowned seeing the expression on her face "Pidge, are you ok?" She immediately ran inside and headed to Keith's door. "Pidge! Why are you crying?" He looked worried. She looked up at him and started crying again. She hugged her best friend and mumbled "She said it was just a phase" "Oh dear god, was it the non binary or the lesbian?" "I only managed to tell her the non binary" Keith hugged her tighter and looked at her with sympathy. "You wanna stay over?" The smaller girl nodded and went on his bed and hugged his stuffed hippo.
That night, they watched she-ra and Pidge fell asleep still hugging the stuffed animal.
In the morning, a knock woke them up. It was Shiro. "Pidge, your parents are here" she opened her eyes slowly and looked at him "Tell then to go away" she frowned and fell back on her back "They said they were sorry..." She got up with still a frown on her face. She walked up to her parents and looked at them angrily. "What do you want" she asked firmly "I'm sorry, Katie. I reacted badly" "It's Pidge" she was so mad Her dad looked at her and hugged her "Also, I'm into girls" her mom's eyes went wide open as Pidge closed the door on them. She went back upstairs and got back in bed. She cried a bit and felt a hand on her shoulder. "Pidge, it'll be ok" Keith hugged her "Hey you know what? I'm gay too!" He added. Pidge chuckled and looked at him.
Her parents soon accepted her and she went back home. She missed her brother. She missed playing video games with him at midnight. Even if it was for 3 days. She missed them.
Sometimes, he mom still called her Katie and each time, she corrected her.
"Hey everyone?" She wanted everyone's attention. Keith's, Matt's, her mom's and her dad's. "Im asexual" Keith and Matt smiled at her and nodded lightly "Oh dear god," her mom mumbled "What does that mean, Pidge?" Her dad asked. "It means I have no sexual feeling or desires? I just don't want any sex" she blushed and looked at her mom "Well that's good, I still have my little girl" "Mom, I am not a girl!" "Well maybe not in your head but your body is a girl's body" she frowned and stormed out. Keith followed her and bought her a milkshake while Matt explained to his mom why it wasn't ok to say that and how bad it made her feel.
"Keith, I am not ok" she said, holding her head in her hands, crying. "It's gonna be ok Pidge. Just hold on. And never hurt yourself"
If only he had listen to his own advice.
She came back home that night and ignored everyone. Eventually, her mom was ok. She stopped calling her Katie and calling her a girl.
Everything was finally perfect
