Mara changed Mara to Keith
Keith: hey dad. I know you won't read that cause you're dead, obviously but I just wanted to say I miss you and I love you so much. And I'm not a girl. I'm trans and I'm gay. I just felt like you needed to know. I wish you and mom were still here. Anyways, love you
He needed to vent, the only person he could talk to right now was his dad. It was 3am and Keith still couldn't sleep. He held onto Lance's jacket and squeezed it hard. His tears left it wet but it didn't matter. Lance was someone he cared about and he didn't want to lose him. He'd do anything if it made him stay.

Lance woke up and looked at his phone.
Friends
His heart aches as he read the word. But why? That's what they are! Friends
He got up and put on his clothes. He wore baggy overalls and a big pink and blue pastel sweater. He went to the kitchen and grabbed a granola bar. He went out the door after hugging his mom and headed for the café. He ordered a latte and went upstairs to Keith's room. Keith was dressed, laying on his bed, holding his hippo plushie. Lance could see he had been crying. His eyes were puffy and his face was bright red. He noticed he was wearing his jacket.
"Keith, are you ok?" He sat on the bed and took the strand of hair of his face. He put his hand through his hair and layed beside him
"What's going on?" He asked softly
"I-" he stared crying again
"Hey, it's ok. You don't have to talk about it." He looked at Keith wand pulled closer to him
"I'm right here with you"
"I don't wanna go to school" Keith said under his breath
"Ok. I'll stay with you"
Keith finally looked up at him and smiled a bit.
He snuggled into Lance's chest and they stayed there for a while.
"Keith?" He hummed in response
"Wanna do something to make you feel better?" Keith nodded
"Ok but you need to get up" Lance said. Keith then slowly got up.
Lance took Keith's arm and brought him outside. They walked for a bit and Keith was starting to ask questions.
"Where are we going?" He asked annoyed
"Somewhere!"
"Why are we walking?"
"Becauseee I can't drive"
They finally arrived at destination and Lance smiled widely and looked at Keith.
"The zoo?"
"Yes! It'll be great!"
They went and bought tickets to go inside and got to the entry. It was giant, there were paintings of animals everywhere and lots os shops and arrows to point where to go. They started by checking the lions.
"Hm they look nice" Keith looked at Lance confused
"They're lions, Lance"
"So what? You look unapproachable yet I'm your friend" Keith rolled his eyes playfully and smiled.
"Let's go see the hippos!" Keith's eyes lit up as Lance mentioned hippos
"There are hippos?" His eyes were basically the same as a kid's when they see an ice cream truck.
They walked towards the hippos and looked at them for a while. Keith was just silent, he was stunned by the fact he was seeing real life hippos.
"Let's go in the hippo souvenir shop!" Lance said. Keith nodded and wouldn't look away
"Keithhhhhh you have to come" he whined but Keith just wouldn't look away. Lance grabbed his hand and dragged him to the shop.
He looked through all the stuff but his eyes al des on one thing.
A space hippo
It was a plushie hippo but from space. It had a ship and even had a helmet. He bought it and handed it to Keith
"Lance you can't just give me stuff"
"Yes I can" he smiled and gave it to him. Keith was still wearing the jacket which made Lance smile, a lot.
They spent all day looking at animals and drinking stuff that was way too sweet. They had so much fun and Keith was already feeling better but it was already time to go home. They separated paths once they arrived in front of the two shops. Lance knew the school had called his mom and she wasn't gonna be happy. Since she was working, she was down at the shop and saw Lance through the big windows.
As soon as he entered the store, his mom frowned and she looked angry.
"Lance Macclain why weren't you at school today?"
"Sorry mama, it's just that when I got to Keith's room, he had been crying all night. I just wanted him to feel better"
"Ay mijo, next time, tell me! I like that you are a good person, you help people but I want you to tell me!"
"Yes sorry mama"
"Now go to your room, you're grounded"
He walked to his room and looked through the window. Keith was on his bed and was looking at the hippo Lance had gave him. He was still wearing his jacket and was smiling uncontrollably.
He went to his desk and started writing. Lance liked writing, wether it was a description, a story, or what happened to him in a day. That's why he had a journal.
Dear diary,
Today, Keith and I went to the zoo. It was really fun though it probably wouldn't have been if he hadn't come. I bought him a plushie. It's a hippo from space! It's super cute. Right now, I see him through my window and he's wearing my jacket. It fits him
"Adam, I think I like Lance"
"Really? That's great!"
"I don't think the likes me back"
"What are you saying? He gave you his jacket!"
"Yeah but maybe it was just a friendly gesture"
"Did Pidge ever give you her jacket?"
"No..."
"Well you know, you can either ask him out or you can wait and see what happens"
"I think I'll wait..."
He went back to his room and started drawing. It helped clear his mind. He always drew either what made him smile or what made him frown so, he drew Lance. His drawing was a side portrait of him with flowers around.
He put it on his walk and smiled at it before going to eat dinner.
That night, he dreamed of Lance.
