Four years earlier
The first time Stiles visited Forks it was the summer right after his first year of high school after he found out the supernatural existed and his best friend was bitten proof of it. His dad thought sending him to stay with Uncle Charlie for a couple of weeks would do him some good and maybe stop the awful habit he'd picked up of lying about everything. Surprise! It didn't.
Forks was definitely different from Beacon Hills, though. For one, the town was twice as small, and second, it was practically 24/7 cold and rain.
Staying with Charlie, on the other hand, was the most peace and quiet Stiles had been able to have all year. His uncle would entertain him with work stories during dinner and watch the game right before bed. And if he was being totally honest it was like a part of Charlie made Stiles feel like he was still back in Beacon Hills at home with his dad they were so similar sometimes and other times they couldn't be more different.
But a guy can only handle so much peace and relaxation especially after the normal excitement of his hometown that had Stiles itching to go out and do something... at this point, anything was welcomed to keep his mind busy. And when he said anything he meant anything.
Sightseeing.
The local diner or library.
Hell, he was even considering making his new hobby running and he absolutely hated running. As if sensing his nephew's absolute boredom, Charlie suggested Stiles go visit his old friend on the reserve from when he came here as a kid, Jacob Black. Stiles immediately jumped at the idea grabbing his rain jacket and car keys before hightailing it out of the house and into his Jeep.
It took him fifteen minutes out of town and another ten minutes to make it to La Push apparently like the greatest and amazing uncle Charlie was, he called ahead letting Jacob's father Billy know they'd be having company and that Jacob should meet him at the reserve's entrance before he could get lost.
Stiles remembered Jacob from when they were ten and baking mudpies in the dirty ground and like the idiots they were that was the first thing they talked about, but after that, as they sat in the living room of the Black's place sipping hot cocoa they bonded over their likes of comic books, marvel movies, and naturally Stiles' personal favorite Star Wars movies their dislikes weren't many or the same and in the end, they only found one which was Fork's preferred everyday weather of rain and ice.
The sun was already setting when Stiles decided to go home he knew he probably shouldn't have stayed as long as he did especially without letting Charlie know, but this was the most fun he'd had in weeks of just sitting around at home waiting for Charlie's shift to end and dinner to begin.
But as he made his way out of La Push and back towards town the road he drove seemed darker everything, in general, seemed darker the trees looked about ready to jump out and whack him while the rain drizzled down in sharp drops hitting the windshield of his Jeep with a rhymical and unnerving pace.
And with Stiles' grand luck in life and dangerous situations, the engine cut out on him he was probably in between both the La Push reserve and the town of Forks, so basically he was stuck in the middle of nowhere at night time. Oh, how his luck went from moderately bad to hysterically worse in mere minutes.
Stiles leaned over to the backseat and grabbed the handy roll of duct tape that seemed to be the only thing keeping his beloved Roscoe together and the only thing that keeps him running when he breaks down. Stiles climbed out and opened the Jeep's hood his patched up work showing in the dim moonlight as he tore a piece of duct tape off and strapped it down to the engine's motor.
A pair of headlights flashed making Stiles jump higher than he thought humanly possible while his heartbeat lept from his chest to his throat. A truck's engine died into a low rumble as the door swung open and revealed a guy around the same age as Stiles.
