Charlie said yes, of course. He already loved the idea of Stiles hanging out with Jacob and Embry over the last two summers and now he was even happier knowing Stiles would be expanding his group of La Push friends to Sam, Emily, and a few other people he didn't know yet. Bella, on the other hand, seemed a little strange and off about the idea which confused Stiles but he soon brushed it aside as he jogged up the stairs and took a quick shower getting ready for the dinner.
A few minutes before he had to leave Stiles sent a quick text to Lydia telling her he missed her and couldn't wait to come back home, which to be honest wasn't a lie, but also technically wasn't the whole truth. He liked it here it was a whole lot calmer things didn't go bump in the night and Stiles always missed Jacob and Emery when he had to leave every summer's end. Stiles also sent an email to Deaton asking him if he'd ever come across any other types or species of werewolves and last, but not least Stiles checked up on Derek, who, of course only answered with two worded sentences, not that he really cared since he got the gist of his message through.
Embry was right on time to pick Stiles up. And Stiles had to resist the urge to back out of the dinner because of his nerves only now catching up to him. But like earlier, he decided to start Embry talking it seemed like the only thing that could distract Stiles enough from how awfully stupid him going alone to an unknown wolf pack, not to mention a totally different breed of wolves was.
"So who all's going to be there?" Stiles asked as they pulled out of the Swan driveway and onto the road.
"There's Sam, obviously," Embry said shooting a glance at Stiles as he spoke, "his soon to be fiance Emily, then there's Paul and Jared, that's the pack so far but we're expecting Quil to shift soon too."
"Are you sure he'll shift?" Stiles asked, "I mean, is there a chance it could just skip his gene pool?"
Embry shifted uncomfortably his eyes darting from the road back to Stiles, "yeah, I mean it's a possibility, but he's also a direct descendant from the last pack and if anyone's gonna turn soon it'll be him."
"What about Jake?" Stiles asked which only seemed to heighten Embry's discomfort.
"Sam thinks he's going to take a bit more time than we did he didn't say why, but I'm not sure it's going to happen anytime soon either."
"Why do you think that?"
Embry shrugged, "just a feeling I've got."
"Tell me more about the vampires," Stiles said knowing he would likely take the bait of changing topics and when Embry was at ease somehow, and for some reason, Stiles was too.
"They're a local family come and gone through the years. Stay for five or so years at a time and then leave for more than fifty years so they won't get discovered" Embry explained.
"Smart" Stiles commented.
"According to stories, they met the tribe sometime in the early 1930s or 1920s no one's exactly sure. And normally the tribe would kill them before they could become a threat to our people, but because the bloodsuckers didn't drink or kill humans for food, instead, they like to call themselves vegetarians and only drink from wild animals" Embry said waving his free hand around as he spoke.
"Unusual, but okay" Stiles nodded.
"Because of that, we have this sort of truce with them--"
"Truce?" Stiles asked.
"Yeah" Embry nodded, "they stick to their diet, don't kill or turn anyone, and we don't kill them."
"That's nice of you," Stiles remarked getting a short laugh out of Embry, "so how do you kill a vampire?"
