Three years earlier

After another year of deceiving his dad, Stiles got sent back to his Uncle Charlie for yet another summer break. But it wasn't his fault he couldn't tell his dad about the supernatural, how his best friend was a werewolf, how Allison his girlfriend and her father were hunters, and his crush since third grade was going mentally insane after getting Peter's alpha bite, and that the real reason he and Scott had to kidnap Jackson and keep him hostage in a police lockup van was because he was unknowingly turning into a giant obedient lizard that went around killing people and paralyzing them from the necks down. Seriously, it wasn't his fault!

Unlike last summer break, Forks was predictable this time around. It rained and Stiles hung out in his room binge watching everything he couldn't and didn't have time for back home and reading through all fifty comics he packed. But when his attention slipped and the hand holding his chin up fell landing in him tumbling to the floor, Stiles gave up and decided to surf the net to try and wake his brain up, but the page from a week ago popped up.

Werewolves and their origins.

He'd been researching it for fun to see how and why Scott, Derek, Isaac, and Cora were all half shifted wolves while Derek's mother Talia and eldest sister Laura managed to fully transform into an actual four-legged wolf.

Stiles sat for a minute staring at the different references and symbols before a thought crossed his mind last time he was here, well not Fork's Charlie's house here, but Fork's La Push reservation here, Stiles passed a small museum on the way back to town.

He quickly snatched his jacket and keys again, but this time left a note on the fridge and sent a text to Charlie's cell telling him he'd gone out exploring, and depending on where he ended up he might stop by Jacob's place.

Stiles arrived at the museum in less time than it took him to find La Push last summer which, of course, he was thankful for as he climbed out of his Jeep and rushed into the cover of the museum out of the rain and into an intellectually eye-opening experience.

He walked passed many wax modeled exhibits depicting how the old Quileute tribes used to live and how wolves would circle their homes in order to protect the wives and young children of the tribes. It was all pretty far fetched in Stiles' opinion, but also the most interesting far fetched thing he'd ever read and observed all summer. The legend of Taha Aki and the Spirit Chiefs was his favorite so far. Stiles liked the idea of the wolves patrolling the tribes and giving their lives in order to protect their beloved ones from the retched cold ones as they were called. But after piecing together all the small facts the plaques and stone slabs of information were hinting the closest thing Stiles could associate the 'cold ones' with were vampires which interested him even more and also sent a cold shiver down his spine just thinking about them. The wolves in the legends reminded Stiles a lot of his own pack with Scott, Lydia, Allison, and Derek. They did everything in their power to protect their homes and families they gave up their own lives and happiness in order to complete that exact task. It wasn't easy or fair just like how things were back home.

By the time Stiles got out of the museum half the day was gone and he couldn't be happier, now all he had to do was figure out something to do with the other half of the day. And that's exactly when he found himself walking the vaguely familiar route to the Black-house before accidentally bumping into someone and without looking up he mumbled out an 'I'm sorry' and kept walking until the someone happened to someone he kind of forgot about.

"Stiles?"

Stiles swung back around at the unknown voice his eyes widening slightly when he noticed it was the same guy that had stopped to help him when he Jeep broke down last summer.

"Embry, right?"

Embry smiled before jokingly clutching at his heart with mock hurt, "forgot about me already?" he asked walking back up to Stiles.

Stiles rolled his eyes, "how can I? You still owe me a knight in shining armor savior moment."

Embry looked caught off guard for a second before simply nodding a mixture of feelings swirling in his head and confusing him, "so, you're back for the summer I'm guessing."

"Really" Stiles quipped sarcastically, "how could you tell?"

"You mean other than not seeing you around here unless it's school break and Jacob reminding me you're in town?" Embry shot back with the same sarcastic tone before shrugging his shoulders, "nothing at all."

"Well..." Stiles stared at him for a second before silently shaking his head and focusing his thoughts, "I'm on my way to his house now, wanna walk me there?"

Stiles didn't know why he asked exactly, but he did. Which didn't only surprise himself but Embry too by the looks of his expression.

"Uh..." he paused for half a second before a smile curved his lips and a laugh slipped from his throat, "what am I now?" Embry asked, "your personal chauffeur."

"Technical a chauffeur means you'll drive me there" Stiles coolly stated, "I'm asking you to walk but if you've got better things to do..." he trailed off with a careless shrug and a playful eye roll as he turned back around and started walking again.

"Hey!" Embry called after him making Stiles smile a silent chuckle threatening to escape him as Embry quickly caught up to him, "fine I'll walk you there, but only because I still owe you a knight in shining armor moment."

"And you think this counts as it?" Stiles asked.

"Of course" Embry smiled, "you might get lost."

Stiles rolled his eyes again but didn't comment. The walk to Jacob's house was probably the most eventful thing and even interesting thing Stiles had, had all day including the museum tour. Embry was actually a very funny and entertaining person to hang around when bored. He told Stiles about his favorite music, books, things to do around the reserve they liked a lot of the same stuff if you exclude adrenaline cliff diving and running through the woods for fun.

Stiles spent the rest of the day with Jacob and his dad talking about the most insane and stupid things they could think of.

This summer break seemed to end a lot faster than the last one and then it was time to head back to the all too familiar town of werewolves, hunters, and giant murderous lizard turning teenagers. In between running from Alpha werewolves and learning that he was something called a 'Spark', Stiles thought about Embry and Jacob, Embry more than Jake. No particular reason that came to mind why, but he found himself wondering what Embry was doing while Stiles researched for the pack or ran for his life from a psycho sacrificing virgin ex-emissary bitch.
