Jaysean's Pov

"This isn't a good idea" Leo groaned for the damn fifth time today. I wished I could shut his ass up like an alarm clock.

"It'll be fine" I sighed grabbing his hand and pulling him over to where I was sitting.

"Why don't you ever listen? I'm telling you that this isn't going to end well. My mom came up for a reason and she seems to be aware of all the shit that has happened while I've been up here. Taking her to a cookout where your mother will be... man all hell is gonna break loose, forreal" he said.

"Stop talking like me" I laughed slapping his ass.

"Jaysean, I'm serious" he spoke.

"I know you are but, your mom wanted to come. I was in no position to refuse. She had me cornered like a crackhead in an alley begging you for money" I replied but, he wasn't hearing it.

"Leonardo leave that man alone. I've made my decision" Lisa stated walking into the room.

"Mom, please don't do this. Just leave things how they are" Leo breathed facing her.

"No. How can you two ever have a thriving relationship if the people you love don't respect it? She came after my child and regardless of who she is, I'm not gonna let that slide" she explained.

"This isn't going to do anything but, cause more issues. You can't force someone to change the way they think" Leo groaned.

"She doesn't have to change but, I'm not going to allow her to be nasty towards you. Everyone is entitled to there opinion but, there isn't anything wrong with you and I refuse for her to make you think there is. Now let's go" Lisa said before grabbing her purse and heading to the door. Leo looked at me and I could tell he wasn't happy.

"You heard ya, mamma, come on" I laughed slapping his ass again.

"I hate you" he grumbled.

"Love you too" I chuckled.

The entire ride to my house was quiet, I mean you couldn't hear shit. It wasn't until we arrived on my street that music started to fill the inside of the car. Leo was still salty that his mom wanted to come. I could understand that but, shit this was inevitable.

"You okay?" I asked him once I pulled into my driveway.

There was smoke coming from the backyard which could be from the grill or the weed. I was looking forward to both. A couple of my cousins were hanging out front while most of the people seemed to be inside or in the back.

"No" he answered getting out before I could say anything else.

Now, I would have thought Lisa would feel outta place being here but, before I knew it she was saying hi to everyone. Then I remembered she grew up around here with my mom before moving down to Texas with her punk ass husband.

"Come on, I want to introduce you to someone" I hummed grabbing Leo's hand.

"My mom-" he started.

"She is aight and a grown-ass woman. Now come" I stated pulling him over to the back. It wasn't hard to find Fuego, I just followed the smell I knew all too well. He was sitting down in a lawn chair smoking.

"Aye man, bout time you pulled up. You wanna hit this?" he said offering me the blunt.

"Say less," I said reaching for it but, Leo stopped me.

"I'm not dealing with you and your damn tree conversations today," he told me.

"It's just one hit" I argued and he just looked at me.

"Man who this?" Fuego asked.

"Mines" I replied.

"Cool" he murmured nodding and that was all he said on the matter.

I honestly wasn't expecting anything else. Fuego was cool people as long as you didn't fuck with his family, money, or weed. We were just alike in that sense which is why he was the only out here I rocked with heavily. I knew he'd always have my back.

We were chillin and talking which caused Leo to lighten up. He met a few of my cousins and everything was good. At least until I saw Victoria ass come walking towards me. Before I could do anything she was standing in front of us and it quickly became awkward.

"This shit is going to fuck up my high so, imma just bounce my happy ass over to the food" Fuego grumbled standing up and leaving.

"Hello" she muttered smiling. I peeped the fact that she completely ignored my man and stared at me.

"What's good?" I responded.

"Nothing. I would've thought you call me so, we can hook up again" she breathed.

"I'm good where I'm at" I chuckled because she had to be delusional to think I would ever leave Leo for her.

"You sure?" she scoffed.

"Wow, that's sad. I feel so bad for you. Are you okay? You poor thang" I asked with concern.

"What are talking about?" Victoria muttered confused.

"I mean you seem to talk fine" I sighed.

"Jaysean what the hell are going on about?" Leo spoke up glancing at me.

"Baby I just feel so sorry for the girl. She obviously doesn't understand English. Clearly, I said I'm fine where I'm at which isn't with your ass so, please go on about your business. We good over here" I stated. Victoria seemed shocked and embarrassed as she stumbled away. Who wore fucking heels to a damn barbecue?

"You are so stupid" Leo laughed.

"What?" I questioned.

"I really thought something was wrong with her" he grumbled still chuckling.

"She wasn't getting it, I'm taken" I whispered before pulling him in close.

"As long as you get it" he snickered under his breath.

"I do" I murmured leaning in to kiss him but, we were cut off by yelling coming from the house.

"That's my mom's voice. Dammit! I told you this was a bad idea" he groaned before running inside.

"It wouldn't be a cookout without some drama. Someone always acting up at the function, ruining the fun for everyone" I grumbled following him.
