Chapter 7

Gavin's POV
"Your car reeks," I groan, scrunching up my face.

Hank and Connor sat in the front seat, Hank driving and Connor in the passenger seat. I sat in the back with Nines, him sitting on the right side and me on the left side. As I said this Nines side-eyed me, narrowing his eyes. I turn my head away and act as if I hadn't seen him. We've been driving for an hour or so and I was getting restless. I was tired of being in his shitty car.

"Deal with it 'Squeaks.'"

My ears turn red. He was referring to what happened with Nines back in the department. I glare at the android for making that situation a thing. I wanted him to feel the wrath behind my eyes since I couldn't do anything to him now. He returns the look and we end up glaring at each other for a few seconds until he wiggles his eyebrows. I turn to the window quickly before he can see the blush beginning to run along my cheeks.

Fucking android.

"Are we there yet? I swear I'm gonna pass out if I stay in here any longer," I groan, throwing my head back.

"Shut up and just stay seated or I'll make your ass walk."

"I would love to see you do that," I snicker.

The doors suddenly unlock and the car stops in front of a red light. Hank looks back at me.
"Get out."

"What!?"

"You heard me."

"Lieutenant, is this really necessary?" Connor pipes up from the passenger seat, looking at him uneasily.

"Get out Gavin."

"I think it's in our best interest that Gavin stays in the car. Walking to the crime scene would result in us showing up late and Captain Fowler would have all our heads for it," Nines says, tilting his head slightly and slowly smiling. "Especially yours."

Hank stares at him for a moment and Nines returns the look with a shit-eating grin. The light turns green before anything can pop off and Hank turns back around. As he does that, Connor looks back for a second to give us an apologetic smile. When he turns back around, Nines side-eyes me. I don't look back at him, the blush still resting on the tip of my ears. I hope he wasn't expecting a thank you because sure as shit he wasn't going to get it.

We drive in silence besides Hank and Connor talking about god knows what. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, my mind just couldn't stop thinking of that one night with Nines. My eyes wander over to the android who was staring out the window and sitting with perfect posture. For once, I wanted to know what he was thinking. Did he ever think back to that night? And what did he mean, "With me." Most likely it was said to comfort me, but it came off as if he was talking about us being in a relationship. Is that what he meant...? This fucking android keeps playing with my head.

"Yes, Detective?"

Nines turns to me and it's then that I realize I've been staring.

"Nothing you oversized microwave," I hiss, turning away from him.

"YOU were staring at HIM," Connor pipes up, looking back at us sideways.

"Mind your phcking business," I snap at him.

"He is my business, he's my little brother," Connor replies matter-of-factly.

"We're not brothers," Nines says, blinking. "Androids don't have siblings."
